If you could move anywhere in England…?

Where would you choose and why?

I’m coming out of a long term relationship and am after a fresh start in a new area, currently in the Home Counties.

I love the countryside and would want to be close to green space. Would also like to be closer to the sea if possible.

I’m looking to be in a town or nearby, with good schools and affordable housing. My budget is £350k for a three bed, but could push this slightly for the right house.

This isn’t really an AIBU but I was hoping you guys could suggest some areas I may not have thought of. It’s so daunting when you can literally choose anywhere…!!

Ely, Cambridgeshire is excellent. An hour from the sea, loads of countryside, part of the Fens. A 3 bed for 350k is entirely doable.

West Northumberland. I made the move here and would never go anywhere else. Beautiful villages surrounded by countryside, also some of the most beautiful beaches are a stones throw away. The house prices are great and you’d get a good house for that money. You’re not far out of Newcastle or from the beautiful Lake District in Cumbria and you can venture to Scotland for a day trip.

North East coast lovely countryside as well. West Cumbria ( hills , lakes & sea )

Westfacing · 22/05/2023 19:40

As you mention good schools, can you literally choose to go anywhere - what about the children's access to their father?

GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal · 22/05/2023 19:48

North Yorkshire. There's some gorgeous places which will give you access to countryside and sea. Look up North York Moors on Rightmove.

Relentlessbollox · 22/05/2023 19:50

Norfolk? Countryside, broads and beaches

Parisj · 22/05/2023 19:54

Southsea, nice sea front, lots going on, a short walk to Portsmouth. Also near the South Downs and Winchester. I don't know the area well though! Just loved it on a short visit and noticed that there's houses around about your price range.

Liverpool because it is seemingly full of hot guys.

Great shout.

Totally agree. You get the best of all worlds. DD and I drove up to Kielder last weekend, a very short drive from us but beautiful forest and countryside. Last month we were at a concert at the Sage in Gateshead. There are also beautiful beaches. As Memyselfandtheothers said I wouldn't live anywhere else.

Greyscreendream · 22/05/2023 20:12

@Westfacing he had returned to his birth country and has no plans to return, so yes anywhere.

thanks for all your suggestions so far I should have mentioned that I’m wary of going too far north as will be difficult to visit friends. Ideally as far north as Sheffield/Birmingham ish.

Any towns you can recommend investigating as I’m keen to find somewhere that can meet my daughter’s needs as she gets older (and I don’t become a taxi service)?

Deep in the New Forest.

YoucancallmeKAREN · 22/05/2023 20:19

Northumberland. Having lived in many counties in England this is the only one i would go back to. But to be fair i would go just over the border.

Keroppi · 22/05/2023 20:22

Hmm based on what you say probably
Dorset
Hamsphire
Winchester
Chichester

JoeLovesGina · 22/05/2023 20:23

Cromer or Sheringham in Norfolk.

AnAngelAtMyTableWithMe · 22/05/2023 20:23

I like Dorset too

RoseMartha · 22/05/2023 20:24

Cornwall
Or
Devon
Failing that I like the Lake District and Isle of Wight is quirky.

Knickerthief1 · 22/05/2023 20:26

West Wales - Pembrokeshire

DisforDarkChocolate · 22/05/2023 20:27

I'd move to Bloomsbury. Never gonna happen so I'll settle for Thirsk.

hellsbells99 · 22/05/2023 20:27

Chester

DisforDarkChocolate · 22/05/2023 20:28

Forgot the why.

It's a lovely little town, surrounded by countryside. Not that far to the beach. It has a main line train station.

GettingStuffed · 22/05/2023 20:29

Theoretically we're in the same position but it's turning into a conversation about Exeter, probably of the table, a seaside resort in Somerset with my daughter in the area of near Cardiff near aging dad. Does it have to be England as Cardiff area fits your bill.

I just couldn't. Countryside is so flat and depressing (I grew up in the area)

I agree (I live here), but £350K is not going to cut it
