If you could move anywhere in England…?

Where would you choose and why?

I’m coming out of a long term relationship and am after a fresh start in a new area, currently in the Home Counties.

I love the countryside and would want to be close to green space. Would also like to be closer to the sea if possible.

I’m looking to be in a town or nearby, with good schools and affordable housing. My budget is £350k for a three bed, but could push this slightly for the right house.

This isn’t really an AIBU but I was hoping you guys could suggest some areas I may not have thought of. It’s so daunting when you can literally choose anywhere…!!

@innocentfun it is lytham but had obviously been a long time since I checked house prices as it turns out £350k won’t get you much. I was quite shocked at how much they are (I rent so they pass me by a bit!). Couldn’t believe how much they’ve gone up

@Playingchesswithpigeons thats the one! <waves> 😊

The Ribble valley is beautiful ❤️

It also sits close to lots of other great countryside, dales, bowland, lakes, and not a million miles from north yorks moors and fabled Northumberland. And despite some recent issues west coast line from preston to london is great. Cheap fares can be had if you are flexible.

Ah, must admit i didn't check property in lytham but from what i know of it (standard of charity shops plus its well known poshness) I couldn't imagine it being "cheap".

How does this fit the below criteria from the OP?

I love the countryside and would want to be close to green space. Would also like to be closer to the sea if possible.

Exactly.

lake District or east coast

violentknight · 24/05/2023 22:50

I'd move to Tynemouth, it's got everything! But moving to the coast I'd want a sea view, not sure I'd be lucky enough to find that...

Shrewsbury

Gingerlygreen · 24/05/2023 22:56

Shropshire.
Very green and beautiful county, not many people outside Shrewsbury and larger towns, fairly central so it's not too bad a journey for a holiday to the Lakes or Cornwall etc.
Affordable housing.

It's not near the sea but not too far for a day trip.

We plan to retire there but will probably go more towards Newtown.

I've been 'watching' this. Didn't contribute because I was going to say Northumberland and I'd noticed you'd said not tooooo far north. But you've noticed it's popularity now. There's a reason for that!! At least go up and have a look. It's AMAZING.

Chester

I agree with this one. We live Shropshire countryside and love visiting Chester, have said it's one city we would quite like to live in.
