Wanting to WOW in London

planningaparty86 · 21/05/2023 19:58

A very, very special trip coming up. It's for my parents and 6 of their friends (ages 60-65). We want a luxury, wow daytime activity in central London in July.

Our option 1 is chartering a helicopter for a 30 min flight of London after they arrive. But all those helicopter flights seem to depart from either Buckinghamshire, Essex or Surrey and having travelled to get to London, they won't want to then travel out again.

They have a day of hospitality booked at Wimbledon the second day after they arrive. So this activity is a little sweetener is to kick off the weekend with a bang. They already have their accommodation booked for the weekend (staying south west).

Budget is high (it's not me paying....!!). They have already stayed at the Ritz years ago so that option is out of the question.

Any suggestions.

Champagne experience on the London Eye?

Ladykryptonite · 21/05/2023 20:11

Champagne top of the shard

DarlingCoffee · 21/05/2023 20:16

Canapés & a VIP dinner in a private dining room at one of the London theatres with a show.

yelloworchids · 21/05/2023 20:17

Another vote for the Shard or it’s Shangri La hotel

ThreeB · 21/05/2023 20:18

If money is no object, I'd do a chefs table at a really good (Michelin) restaurant.

DarlingCoffee · 21/05/2023 20:19

Or a VIP lunch during a matinee! Most theatres have PDR and you get a red coated butler to
serve you. It’s very fancy and would be a nice treat together with the show :) just contact VIP services at the theatre

If there's a matinee, the most expensive table seats for Cabaret at the Kit Kat Club, with food and champagne.

100% agree with this. We did this (previews - much cheaper) and it was superb.

Royal Academy followed by afternoon tea at Fortnums?

TheShade · 21/05/2023 20:35

Box the Royal Opera House & dinner at Clos Maggiore or The Connaught.

blueraininlondon · 21/05/2023 20:35

Park Chinois is an experience!!
Pan asian food, entertainment and good wine!
If you wanted somewhere more down key on the Sunday (Chez Bruce is amazing- my all time favourite restaurant! It has a Michelin star but is only 65 pp) x

VestaTilley · 21/05/2023 20:39

Lunch or dinner at a private room in the Ritz, Claridges or the Dorchester, followed by opera or ballet at the ROH in a box.

buddhasbelly · 21/05/2023 20:43

I’m so hoping they decide to do something like the crystal maze live thing. Luxury? No. But that doesn’t matter when you’re in the dome collecting fake gold paper.

Fedupwitheveryone · 21/05/2023 20:44

It totally depends on what they would most enjoy? I like breakfast at the Wolseley, afternoon Tea at Claridges or supper at Rules in Covent Garden (oldest restaurant in London and the ONLY place my ex-Mother in law could find nothing to complain about ;-)

But then there is seeing something at the Royal Opera House, and also Kew Gardens - really depends what they are into??

gogohmm · 21/05/2023 20:44

Table at the musical Cabaret - limo each way. Perhaps a matinee then

If they want more authentic old London experience , the wine bar half underground near embankment tube station is great, outside seating too on warm days

Tigofigo · 21/05/2023 20:52

Interactive dining at Claridges, charter a nice private boat down the Thames - try the Silver Fleet, Shard is good if they don't usually do London.

PinkPiano · 21/05/2023 20:53

These guys might be able to help with the helicopter thing. They are in Battersea.
