To go and take next doors wind chimes down?

I hate the noise wind chimes make, and realise that my hate of them is my problem. Our neighbours have some in the trees in their back garden and they drive me mad at times. I haven’t said anything to them as they are doing nothing wrong.

But they have moved out and the house is up for rent and they have left them up, would IBU to go and take them down and leave them laid in their garden so they wouldn’t make a noise but could find them if they come back for them?

Absolutely just do it. This might be your one big chance .... go for it .....

SoShallINever · 21/05/2023 17:08

I thought the next sentence in you title was going to be "to take them down and shove them up their arse" and I would still have voted YANBU

Can't stand them and they used to terrify the poor cat.

Wow - never thought of wind chimes as a cat deterrent. I'll give it a go.

AgnesX · 21/05/2023 17:14

Quick. Go with a spade and bury the dratted things. They make my teeth itch!

truthhurts23 · 21/05/2023 17:15

I love wind chimes they sounds magical ..
i wouldn't lay them on the floor because the new owners might find them and say oh look free wind chimes , and stick them right back in the tree, and you will be right back to square 1
now is your chance to put those windchimes in the BIN

Hedjwitch · 21/05/2023 17:18

My downstairs neighbours have these at their door which is right under my bedroom window! They drive me mad all night. Would take them down but now they've got a bloody ring doorbell thingy so I would be seen.

I really don't understand the pathalogical hatred of wind chimes on MN, it's hardly the London Phil on a bad day. If I have to tolerate shrieking children all Summer then they can tolerate my windchimes, if they want to damage my chimes then I reserve the right to reciprocate on their noise makers.............!

Budikka · 21/05/2023 17:32

I would take them down and certainly not leave them out. The new occupants probably hate them. If asked, just say "a big boy did it and ran away..."

Bin them and go to the top of the class for being a good citizeness!

Nearamir · 21/05/2023 17:36

I have a set from my ex neighbours’ garden hanging in my spare wardrobe. They’re going in the bin if they haven’t been reclaimed by the end of this summer.

Notimeforaname · 21/05/2023 17:39

I put windchimes outside to annoy my neighbours. They are loud, scummy people.

PeopleAreShit · 21/05/2023 17:43

Seriously do it, empty house do it today. Don’t leave them for the next lot, just hide them at yours, if they come back they can ask for them.

Summerfun2023 · 21/05/2023 17:46

I was considering putting wind chimes in my garden I love the sound. I am happy I found your thread.

I love the way you think it's an easy way to get their backs up.

Hairpinleg · 21/05/2023 17:50

Do it and bin them. They are noise pollution.

RoseBucket · 21/05/2023 17:52

My neighbour has a bloody water feature, after 5 minutes of it sounding like a running toilet I want to poor cement in it (but I won’t)

lollipoprainbow · 21/05/2023 17:52

They give me the creeps !!

gamerchick · 21/05/2023 17:54

Ah man, do it. You'll kick yourself if the new occupants like them.

Why have them at all if you can’t even hear them? Many neighbours (like the OP) say nothing out of politeness and suffer silently. Horribly antisocial things. Fine if you live somewhere isolated, but otherwise noise pollution.

OP, now is your chance! Take them down but either bin them or put them away somewhere - and not in your neighbour’s garden or the people renting will put them up again.

I can hear them when I’m out in the garden, if there’s a breeze. They make a very gentle noise. One set of NDN rarely go in their garden and the other side their two young kids and dogs cause more noise pollution than my chimes, so I don’t feel bad having them.

Happygirl79 · 21/05/2023 18:03

Get rid of them while you have the chance

ArDi · 21/05/2023 18:19

FlyingFang · 21/05/2023 17:26

Most are awful, but there are some properly tuned ones which sound lovely, like these: https://www.windchimescorner.co.uk/products/corinthian-wind-chime-44-inches

These gave me a headache after about ten seconds of listening. Ghastly things.

Splodgerbodgerbadger · 21/05/2023 18:56

Right I’m off round later when it starts getting a bit darker. It’s been windy here today so been sat in the garden listening to the things. Our bedroom is on the garden side of the house so if we have our window open we can hear them.

Cheering you on. Get the bastard things

I'd just bin them TBH. They're not going to wake up at 2am one day and sit up in bed and declare, "My wind chimes! I left them behind!" then come back for them. Nobody does that.

😂😂
