To go and take next doors wind chimes down?

I hate the noise wind chimes make, and realise that my hate of them is my problem. Our neighbours have some in the trees in their back garden and they drive me mad at times. I haven’t said anything to them as they are doing nothing wrong.

But they have moved out and the house is up for rent and they have left them up, would IBU to go and take them down and leave them laid in their garden so they wouldn’t make a noise but could find them if they come back for them?

LOL I have wind chimes. They're metal but they're the big tubes, not the little tinkly ones, so they make a deeper sound. They're at the end of my 80ft garden so they're not heard much at the house end. They're also in a sheltered corner, so tbh you don't hear them much at all. If we have high winds I put a rubber band round them to stop them clanging, and I take them down in winter when the weather is worse. If my NDNs complained I'd definitely remove them.

I worked with someone whose neighbour had wind chimes.
He waited until it was windy, attached some scissors to some sticks and cut them so it looked like the wind did it. They replaced the nylon strings. He waited until it was windy and did it again. They didn’t put it back up.

Fandabedodgy · 21/05/2023 14:53

Go for it

YetAnotherSpartacus · 21/05/2023 14:57

Am I alone in liking wind chimes? Don't like the clunky bamboo ones so much, but like the tinkly ones

I love windchimes!

It's not your property so the answer is a firm no. You had and have ample opportunity to request their removal if they annoy you so much.

Do it while you have the chance; horrible bloody things

funinthesun19 · 21/05/2023 15:01

Do it! Otherwise the new neighbours when they move in might like them and keep them up. Now or never!

LookItsMeAgain · 21/05/2023 15:02

I hate them.

My neighbour has a tinkly metal set up nailed into their conservatory (they used to be hanging from their shed but they got moved) and they always keep the windows of the conservatory closed. Along with that, they rarely sit out in their own back garden to enjoy the wind chimes.
I'd love to be able to fashion something long enough with a hook (like the thing that they made in "Friends" to poke 'Ugly Naked Guy' with) that I could, in the dead of night unhook the chimes from their nail and bin them!

Truestorypeeps · 21/05/2023 15:02

I had the same thoughts about removing the basketball hoop that my inconsiderate adjoining ex-neighbours put on the rear of their house! In the end, I left it and thankfully the new neighbours don't use it at all.

BriarHare · 21/05/2023 15:05

They should be outlawed. I’d remove them and dispose of them.

sassyduck · 21/05/2023 15:08

Get them in the bin quickly!

CoffeeWithMyOxygen · 21/05/2023 15:12

I’m deaf and love the look of wind chimes. My (hearing) DH performed the public service of banning me from ever getting any as I’d be the only one not driven mad by them 😂

Mariposista · 21/05/2023 14:49

Can't stand them and they used to terrify the poor cat.

Ooooh.... do you think they'd keep ndn's cat off my patio then? Sorely tempted to go get some windchimes now.

Oysterbabe · 21/05/2023 15:18

Take them down and throw them into the sea.

SunnyEgg · 21/05/2023 15:18

Yeh go for it

readbooksdrinktea · 21/05/2023 15:20

In this situation I would. No one is there to miss them.

Malariahilaria · 21/05/2023 15:22

Definitely do it. I bought tinkly wind chimes for my garden because I love the sound but after being woken up every night I took them down again after a few days. I hope my neighbours forgive me. I suppose what I want is remote controlled ones that only tinkle gently between certain hours when no one is trying to sleep.

Vinvertebrate · 21/05/2023 15:22

Flame thrower works wonders on them. So I hear.

CharlotteRose90 · 21/05/2023 15:27

Hahah do it and Chuck them in the bushes. My neighbours had some and the same happened to them when they went on holiday . Mysteriously vanished.

whynotwhatknot · 21/05/2023 15:28

theyre a pain in the arse go get them

i dont understand how anyone likes the sound

InSpainTheRain · 21/05/2023 15:41

Do it!!

Your neighbour is probably too polite.

Don't kid yourself that they can't be heard; I had years of very similar and if you're sensitized to them, every clang and warble comes over loud and clear.

The best place for any type of wind chime is in the dustbin.

IAmAlreadyRegrettingMyGreyColourScheme · 21/05/2023 15:51

Absolutely. Get rid.

letthemalldoone · 21/05/2023 15:55

What are you waiting for? 😎

AmandaHoldensLips · 21/05/2023 15:56

Scissors are your friends.
