To think this was the most cringe thing to overhear?

Got a late train home last night and two men sat behind me talking loudly about drugs and were clearly doing coke off the pull down tray.

What was so cringe was how desperate they were for people to know that’s what they were doing:

What wallies. I’m surprised they didn’t get their willies out to measure whose was bigger 😂

They were high - they left their magnifying glass at home.

DojaPhat · 21/05/2023 19:40

@Shadyladyo Which poster had to leave a shop in a rage because a mum asked her child how much change to expect? I'm reading back the thread and can't spot the poster.

Modda · 21/05/2023 19:44

Why were they saying they like the taste of sowed if they were doing coke?

Idiots.

DojaPhat · 21/05/2023 14:04

That's very cringe. But nothing, and I mean nothing, makes me cringe more than performance parenting. On one occasion I had to leave the shop when a mother was asking her son how much change to expect back from the purchase of a packet of skittles.

Huh?

You’re saying a parent trying to teach their child basic day to day arithmetic is more cringeworthy than two blokes advertising to the world that they are doing cocaine on a train? You have a very strange perspective.

I really increasingly hate the way any attempt at an intelligent conversation with a child is decried as “performance parenting” tbh. Your statement says far more about you and your insecurities than it does about this parent.

Drugs are drugs. I don’t want to be in an enclosed space with any sort of addict. I doubt their criminal nature varies depending on what sort of drug they’re currently taking.

It really does

Also - you choose your moment. Asking your child to pay and work out the change in a quiet little shop with a friendly till assistant on a slow morning - that’s fine and very normal. You’ll get a smile from the friendly till assistant who was a bit bored and everything’s good. Don’t do it in Lidl on a Saturday morning before a bank holiday when there’s ten people with brimming trolleys behind you, in a loud voice, slyly glancing round because you think everyone is going to be so impressed with your little genius.

Everyone chats to their toddlers on little walks round the park - “look, there’s a duck! What does the duck say?” Nobheads talk loudly to children on packed trains along the lines of “what’s duck in French, darling? CANARD! That’s RIGHT! Well DONE! You’ve paid such good attention in your EXTRA CLASSES, no wonder you’re TOP!”

🤣🤣 so true!

Minimalme · 21/05/2023 20:36

We lived in a house which backed onto communal garages and was a coveted spot for drug deals.

In summer, our bedroom window was open and by Christ, we were shocked at how fucking boring the drug deals were.

DojaPhat · 21/05/2023 20:43

@Usetherightgearforthehill That's not the post. We're looking for the one where the poster left a shop in a rage because said mum asked her kid how much change to expect. Seems quite an extreme reaction even to the 'performance' parenting bit. Do give me a shout if you find the post though! Thanks!

Agree with @User1367349 - how is this performance parenting? My DC is loving learning to read and we often talk about spellings of things or I'll point out something for them to try read while we are out . They also learn to say "thank you" in whatever language of the country we go to on holiday in (as I've always done) and say it to the locals. Thought that was more helping increase their knowledge and worldliness than "performance parenting"!

Anyway as @User1367349 says this is a derail but the comment needed addressing Grin

I mean what were you expecting? Ignoring the underlying product, why would it be any more interesting than buying some second-class stamps at the post office!

Maybe they were expecting Walter White?

Did you not consider that the whole performance was just done for the reaction of the gullible.
Likely that no drugs were involved in the performance. It seems to have had the desired effect.
😉😁😁

Desired effect of what? Not one person gave them any attention.

And yes they were doing coke. I had to walk by them when I left and saw it.

PS I've now read more of the thread so have seen it's very much been addressed! I'm fact I'm confused why a thread about performance parenting has a title like this Grin

Oh sorry I missed this was your post and assumed the person who had posted it did follow ups about being in a rage. But yes someone is taking your post out of context there as you don't mention rage at all

@Usetherightgearforthehill Thank you for having the good grace to pick up on that part!

Lidlpopdrinker · 21/05/2023 22:23

Cocaine turns people into absolute wankers, and if they’re already absolute wankers, then…

brunettemic · 21/05/2023 22:25

I hate it when people act like that on trains/similar places, they’re almost trying to get you/others involved. I was trying to work on a train once and all I could was 2 men telling another how shocked they were he’d never paid for “it”. Another time a gaggle (is that the right term?!) of women who seemed to be have an endless supply of rose spent 2 hours discussing every man in their office and whether they “would” or not.

Dibbydoos · 21/05/2023 22:52

Sounds like they might have been stiffed by their drug dealer too cos isn't it normal to get all braggy - King of the Road type behaviour and conversations etc...

I'm anti drugs btw so don't have personal exp but this just struck me as a little odd if they'd just done coke...

Sad lives some people have 😞

It’s a side issue to the point of the thread, but how is that performance parenting? I’m always talking to my DC when out and about, asking them questions, pointing things out to them. That’s for their benefit and mine, it really has nothing to do with you as a complete stranger.

Getting them to engage in everyday maths is probably one of the most useful things you can do for your kid; the number of adults who can’t work out change or so even simpler maths is appalling (“cringe” if you prefer).

I agree. So many adults haven't got a clue about how to manage money. I started my two DC off at quite a young age and it has paid dividends! Now they are adults, they both manage money very well.

OrbandSpectacle · 22/05/2023 19:18

Quite a confusing thread, but the message seems to be that if you peformance parent maths to your kids, they grow up able to manage their own drug deals.
