To think this was the most cringe thing to overhear?

Got a late train home last night and two men sat behind me talking loudly about drugs and were clearly doing coke off the pull down tray.

What was so cringe was how desperate they were for people to know that’s what they were doing:

Talking about their drug dealer and how they liked the taste of speed (LOL)

And he was banging the tray for ages cutting it. Snorting it loudly, sniffing, saying oh we’re such bad people.

And then they were talking about a girl they’d definitely “smash”

And I was just sat there fighting the urge not to laugh at how embarrassing they were.

Is speed even a thing these days? I thought that died with 90s raving

georgarina · 21/05/2023 15:39

Reminds me of all the people now walking about smoking cannabis. I have to pass people smoking in the open with my kids walking to school. Absolutely disgusting and antisocial.

LadyRos · 21/05/2023 15:41

Ugh! Embarrassing as f.

That's very cringe. But nothing, and I mean nothing, makes me cringe more than performance parenting. On one occasion I had to leave the shop when a mother was asking her son how much change to expect back from the purchase of a packet of skittles.

Thank you.. I now have something to call it!! 😂 I actually normally hear it more with dog parents rather than human parents which is even more cringe as the dog doesn't understand a jot of what they're saying!!

sunshineandtea · 21/05/2023 15:54

@sandyhappypeople there's a woman near me who's a dog performance parent (is there a word for them?) her bloody dog has a ridiculous long name and she's constantly having a stupid conversation with it while it's actually trying to hump my castrated 3 year old collie.

My dog does get fed up and growls at it and she gets all offended 🙄🙄🙄 give me strength

Is it only me that would have informed the conductor and expected them to be arrested at the next stop?
Or is taking illegal drugs in a public place considered totally acceptable these days?

I never saw a conductor. If I’d seen the police at the station (which I have a few times on the late train) I would probably have told them. But I wasn’t going out of my way to report it no.

I would have been terrified. There’s something on another thread about public transport being more environmentally friendly. This is why people don’t use it.

AutumnCrow · 21/05/2023 16:14

ILikePizzas · 21/05/2023 14:26

Out of interest, if it does that to men, is there something similar that it does to women?

A date night with Jolyon Maugham?

Why would you be terrified? I can understand being a bit uncomfortable but terrified seems an extreme reaction?

In the choice between being stuck in a queue behind a parent performance parenting and being stuck on a train with two men getting high talking about smashing women I'll take the performance parenting please!

I understand that there are show-off parents @AtomicBlondeRose, but I just don’t get why asking your kid to calculate the change inconveniences anyone else?

It isn't performance parenting.

You can text BTP. 61016.

Why would I be terrified to discover I’m on the train with drug addicts who are getting high? Perhaps because they’re addicts who could potentially attack me to get money for their next hit. Or because they’re high on drugs and could engage in any sort of anti social behaviour including rape and assault. Drug addicts are not the sort of people you want to be in a confined space with! They’re not exactly known for their respectful and law abiding behaviour.

NatashaDancing · 21/05/2023 16:28

TulipCat · 21/05/2023 13:27

I was once on a train and a group of teenagers so clearly wanted to shock me with their talk about the drugs they did at a recent festival. As I was leaving I said "It's such a shame that drugs are so tame these days, the mushrooms in my day were so much better. Yours sound so boring " I don't think they were expecting that 😁.

That's quite cringe making too.

TulipCat · 21/05/2023 16:28

What a pair of twats. Only marginally worse than so oh-so-important business men who have loud conversations asking their PA to do trivial things for them, so that we all know just how very important they are.

Are you thinking of heroin?

Drugs are drugs. I don’t want to be in an enclosed space with any sort of addict. I doubt their criminal nature varies depending on what sort of drug they’re currently taking.

marshmallowmatcha · 21/05/2023 16:41

I'd have offered them hand sanitiser for the surfaces

Usetherightgearforthehill · 21/05/2023 16:46

MiddleParking · 21/05/2023 16:37

Are you thinking of heroin?

I thought they were on coke?

The types of violent behavior reported by these cocaine addicts ranged from minor psychological aggressions to major physical acts that included murder and rape

These are the kind of behaviours self reported by people on coke. Why wouldnt someone be worried about being on a train with two men on coke talking about smashing women?

MooseAndSquirrelLoveFlannel · 21/05/2023 16:53

Why didn't you report it to the BTP! Quick text to 61016 and job done!

It’s a side issue to the point of the thread, but how is that performance parenting? I’m always talking to my DC when out and about, asking them questions, pointing things out to them. That’s for their benefit and mine, it really has nothing to do with you as a complete stranger.

Getting them to engage in everyday maths is probably one of the most useful things you can do for your kid; the number of adults who can’t work out change or so even simpler maths is appalling (“cringe” if you prefer).

I get you @User1367349.

"Performance parenting", otherwise known as actual parenting.

finallygotospeaktoSky · 21/05/2023 17:16

I don't give a shit if your child is able to speak eight languages fluently and they are only 6. Please move along and stop blocking the supermarket aisle with your over sized trolley and boring phone call on loud speaker.

I suspect you have very limited experience of addicts.

Dogsitterwoes · 21/05/2023 17:21

I'm only here to say speed isn't the same as coke... Not that it really matters.
