Party invite RSVPs

We’re having a party for my DS who will be turning 4 next month. We made a list of his friends and asked preschool to hand them out, which they were happy to do. DS also attends day care and we did the same there. Invites were sent out a week ago with a date to RSVP by being 2 weeks after that. So far we’ve had 3 responses - all yes which is great - but I’m concerned that no one else has responded either way. AIBU to expect parents to have responded within a week?

Within a week is probably optimistic. Within 24/48 hours of the event probably more likely!

I found everyone sent the RSVP the same week as the party, irritatingly

This happened to my son, literally three people turned up out of his whole class of 22! It was awful and heartbreaking it’s put me off parties for life. We now do a nice gift and family party/ day out. We still had to pay for the minimum 10kids too, if you think your son will be upset id cancel.

So you're still a week before the requested rsvp date that YOU set, and you're annoyed people haven't responded yet? 🙄

Quinoawoman · 18/05/2023 19:36

You're not being unreasonable, but sadly people are really rude about this kind of thing at times. My eldest's class have always been brilliant at RSVPs, my youngest's class are terrible - sent 14 invites out about a month ago and had 4 replies so far. The parents who have organised a party for their own kids have replied - but the ones who haven't, haven't bothered. They probably don't realise how rude and annoying it is.

Who said I’m aboard? Jeez… no I was asking if it was unreasonable to think that people would have responded by now. When I get invites I tend to respond pretty quickly

That’s very optimistic! People tend to arrive without having replied and some reply at the last minute.

Whataretheodds · 18/05/2023 21:08

You're only a week into the 2 week window, YABU. If you wanted them to respond this week you should have given the deadline as a week ago.

Literally just had a party for my pre schooler

i gave out my invites in March - and left it 3 weeks

i then asked nursery to follow up with a few and or mentioned it to parents when I saw them politely

quite a few parents didn’t see the invite in their kids bag or waiting to see if them could make it

in the end all but one kid came and I didn’t hear any complaints for following up politely

stayathomer · 18/05/2023 21:13

Most parties we’ve ever gone to invite is about a week and a half beforehand. I think they possibly put it off as the date was so far away!

Yeah this!!! I'd send a message out to the parents through teachers somehow as I know of tons who just don't seem to understand what RSVP is so defo better for a reminder

labamba007 · 18/05/2023 21:23

I got most rsvps on the day of the deadline, but you can also ask nursery if they'd mind giving parents a little nudge too - maybe closer to the time! I wouldn't worry too much yet!
