what happened to my head?

hoping someone else has had this and im not just going crazy.

a few times recently ive had an extremely weird sensation in my head when I was chewing and eating food. it started when I was eating and it felt as If the sides of my head were numb (around and above my temples) I really dont know how else to describe it but it was unnerving and it felt very wrong. Know when you're in a dream and you're running but you're not running properly and its a sort of slow motion weird feeling? sort of like that but the sides of my head just felt really weird, a numb sort of spaced out feeling. it was so bad that I had to stop eating, it just felt really weird and I felt quite sick with it.

it wasnt TMD/TMJ- ive experienced that before and know all the weird and wonderful ways that can present but it wasnt that

its happened a few times when eating but I can't find a trigger for it

does anyone have any idea of what this could be? feel like im going mad with it but really hoping someone can recognise it from my rubbish description

Were you eating the same or a particular type of food when it happened?
I have had very similar symptoms when eating something containing MSG.
After the third or fourth time we figured it out.
I discovered it is called Chinese Restaurant syndrome!

no I wasnt unfortunately there's no link or trigger, its happened with several different types of food and different textures too (eg, not just crunchy food or soft food)

that's interesting you had that with MSG though!

I get this OP when I eat certain things only it's not often so I haven't pinpointed exactly what's causing it. It usually happens if I'm eating something spicy hot/tomatoey but not something I've made from scratch. It's a weird sensation that's hard to describe but I feel sick afterwards and usually sleep badly and have weird dreams. Maybe it is MSG as previous poster said?

oh thats interesting you get it too! ive never noticed the bad sleep and dreams afterwards thankfully, its just the weird numbness around my head. its definitely not MSG for me as I dont usually eat foods with it anyway (not because I actively avoid it, I just dont usually eat foods that have it IYSWIM)

It's weird because like I say, it doesn't happen very often. I'm going to pay more attention to it next time so I can articulate how it feels a bit better!

It’s probably a new symptom of TMJ. You could be grinding more in the night.
