Anyone applied for a passport recently and can give me an idea of how long it took? Website says up to 10 weeks. Just trying to decide whether it’s worth doing a fast track one. It’s needed for end of June.

It's taking about 10 weeks at the moment because there was a backlog from the strikes. For the end of June, I'd go with a fast track appointment.

Applied 10 days ago online for me, it arrived 4 days ago so 6 days. I was amazed. Did both DC about 5 weeks ago and they took 2.5-3 weeks each. All online, renewals, and not fast track. They all went to different passport offices so I wondered if they are channelling the applications to offices that aren't on strike or something? But I'd play safe in your position and go fast track.

I renewed two children's passports recently and it took 4 weeks

LakeFlyPie · 16/05/2023 21:25

Sent DS' renewal mid April, took 3 weeks

blibblibs · 16/05/2023 21:25

Online renewal of two child passports on 24th April. Got one back last Thursday and the other yesterday, so 3ish weeks.
Very pleasantly surprised.

finallyme2018 · 16/05/2023 21:27

I applied on 27 April and including 2 bank holidays. I received my new passport just over 2 weeks. On 15 may.

Waspalert · 16/05/2023 21:27

I applied for one for my son thinking it would be touch and go for the end of August and it arrived two days ago - took about 10 days. My husband’s one took a similar time. Both were renewals which we did online.

TheHopefulMum · 16/05/2023 21:28

Just applied for first passport and it was a 3 week turnaround time. We are Wales, not sure that makes a difference.

Northernsoullover · 16/05/2023 21:28

You'll get plenty of people saying it came back quickly. Personally I wouldn't chance it and go for a fast track.

Buttercups3926 · 16/05/2023 21:30

I applied for a renewal for my DS on 9th May, we go away Monday 29th May.... hope it comes back in time

ringsaglitter · 16/05/2023 21:31

I'm in another country so it's slower than the above, but looks to be a few weeks - below the 10 week limit, probs about 5?

We got our baby's first passport back within three weeks 2 weeks ago. Was advised it could take up to five months.

booboobidoops · 16/05/2023 23:09

Adult renewal.

Applied Saturday.
Sent old passport on Tuesday.
Received new one on Friday.

So they got my old passport on Wednesday, and dispatched the new one on Thursday.

Still amazed.

Patty101 · 16/05/2023 23:16

I chanced it with a recent holiday - it took 2 weeks for an adult renewal with a change of details, a child renewal and a new child application.

But the amount of sleep I lost over worrying whether I'd ruined the first family holiday we'd had in years was absolutely not worth it. If I could do it again I would 100% pay for fast track, purely for the peace of mind.

ChannelyourinnerElsa · 16/05/2023 23:17

Three week for a full set of renewals, including a child’s one who needed countersigning.

BashfulClam · 16/05/2023 23:31

DH 3 days, mine 1 week with a babe change. My friend sent off her, DH and DC, DH and DC took 2 weeks, hers took 3 months.

Colinorpercy · 16/05/2023 23:32

I know someone just got theirs back in a week.

Stigsmother · 19/05/2023 14:33

I applied for mine online 16/05, and got it back today 19/05, I am absolutely gobsmacked, well done HM Passports 👏 👏👏

Buttercups3926 · 19/05/2023 18:18

Still waiting on DS renewal, I submitted it on 9th May.

Margrethe · 19/05/2023 18:25

I applied online, I got my new passport back via post last week. It took 3 weeks. I was very impressed.

34and3 · 19/05/2023 18:26

Dds renewal took two weeks. That was at the start of the strikes

TheUnquestionedAnswer · 19/05/2023 18:41

I submitted my application online ( a photo taken in a studio so I knew it would be ok) on 02 May. Got it back today.

mrstea301 · 19/05/2023 19:01

I did mine at the end of March and it took 2 weeks. I did the digital check and send at the post office.
