...to want my 2yo dd to take her wellies off for bed

why why why??? what is this fascination? and surely they're bloody uncomfortable to sleep in. And I had to wash them in the bath water when the kids got out cos they were covered in mud, so the bath has been scrubbed twice in one day for the 3rd day running....

I think it's really funny and something you will laugh about one day. Doesn't everyone with big kids tell you that you will wish that they were small.........

AlistairSim · 19/02/2008 07:03

Ah, yes, the general looniness of the modern toddler.
They don't mention it before you have children, do they?

DD went to bed last night in a plastic Viking's helmet.

Anna8888 · 19/02/2008 07:25

If she wants to go to bed in wellies, why not?

belgo · 19/02/2008 07:27

my dd1 has gone to bed in fairy wings, ballet dress, slippers.

Sometimes, if she really likes an item of clothing, she keeps it on non stop for three days and three night

Life's too short to make a big deal out of it

mrsruffallo · 19/02/2008 07:38

I would let her go to bed in wellies and take them off after she has fallen asleep
It's not worth arguing over is it?

lizziemun · 19/02/2008 07:44

dd1 went through a stage where she took a wooden spoon and a whisk to bed with her .

mrsruffallo · 19/02/2008 07:52

lol lizziemum

DS has 2 pairs of wellies. one for outside, one for inside (cheapies from matalan). that way we never have to worry about the mess.

FrannyandZooey · 19/02/2008 07:59

ds took a sink plunger to bed once

Olihan · 19/02/2008 08:01

ds1 took the poker to bed every night for about a week.

ibelieveindreaming · 19/02/2008 08:07

I would just let her wear them and take them off once she is asleep.

chisigirl · 19/02/2008 08:11

YABU.
What if there was a flood in the middle of the night? Good job she is such a sensible DD!

readytopop · 19/02/2008 09:59

Oh I did laugh and gave up on the third attempt to remove them. we've also had fairy dress, new shoes, cuddling new shoes, fave book... I have a strong suspiscion it's the footwear obsession coming out early, god help me when she's a teen!

Ds has also gone to bed in strange stuff, bike hat, ski suit, wellies, firemans outfit, shoes, with a box of cars, often with car collection carefully parked along one half of his bed -it is extensive, and was that fun trying to remove them all silently!

Good idea re 2 pairs, don't quite know if she would be convinced, these are hand me downs from a friend and they are known as x's wellies. As to flood, well, we've got away so far- it only came to the end of the road last time, might be handy if we needed to get to the shops!

gonna lose them today though, it's not the wearing them that bugs so much as having to clean the bath twice in one day!

she sounds like my 3 year old! wears wellies with everything - even on hot sunny days. she gets a good laugh from everyone on the way to school and back. and they are usually on the wrong feet ( I like them like that mummy)
this will pass

dontwanttogetoutofbed · 19/02/2008 10:01

my now 3yo went through a phase where after her bath she would only agree to put on a dress, tights, shoes and a bun in her hair and was adamant on getting into bed like that. i didn't argue with her and soon enough the phase passed (today she will not wear anything but her pyjamas in her bed)

LilRedWG · 19/02/2008 10:03

During the summer of '76 (which was rather warm) I was two and a half and insisted on wearing my red wellies EVERY day, regardless of the fact that most sensible people were as close to naked as possible.

claraquitetirednow · 19/02/2008 10:05

ha ha I love toddlers. My dd has gone to bed with the top of a rubbish bin shaped like a pig's head once or twice - she thinks it's Peppa Pig and ended up sleeping with it right over her head - laugh, we did, and took some pics!
We will look back at these mad days with great fondness I am sure.

My dd2(2)has a shoe obsession
She had a pair of Peppa Pig wellies for Christmas and has worn them until they have perished. She wouldn't wear any shoes only the wellies until they split and i had to buy her some new shoes and wellies yesterday. This pair are going to be hidden until it rains lol.
She also loves umberellas and loves to sit in the car with one up or poke me in the ribs with it.

Ahh to be a toddler!
It is the only time you can wear what you like and not have to worry.

Beauregard · 19/02/2008 11:51

Meant to say that she also has worn her wellies to bed.

coastalmum · 19/02/2008 11:58

DS2 (3yrs old) eat, sleeps and plays in his policeman outfit. He only takes of his policeman outfit to put his nursery uniform on, which he takes off as soon as he arrives and puts on the nurserys policeman costume! This has now lasted 7 months, and we've been through 3 costumes.
