Girls I’m absolutely fuming here my son goes to St Joseph’s in drumcondra part of the child vision project As I was dropping him off this morning there was a huge hulaboolo in the yard
turns out rats had been running around a classroom and the play area on Friday and no one thought to inform us and to just re open the school
Am I being unreasonable
I’ve rang every public body this morning council tusla health board board of education and not one of them will take responsibility to look into it
I whipped him out and now god knows when I can send him back

Have you found out if they have done anything since Friday to address the problem?
Its possible (probable) they have had pest control in and deep cleaned the classrooms.

ChippyPrincess · 15/05/2023 11:40

I worked in a school - the building was over 100 years old, kids are messy when it comes to food and litter - and mice (don't know about rats) were a constant battle for us, despite careful and regular cleaning and pest control.

KrisAkabusi · 15/05/2023 11:45

Do you know that they didn't do anything about it over the weekend?

MaryGgg · 15/05/2023 11:50

@KrisAkabusi i know because I spoke to the principal and pest control were arriving as I was leaving with my son

'Girls' 😂😂

Not ideal OP but I'm sure pest control will sort it.

PimpMyFridge · 15/05/2023 11:55

🤣🤣🤣🤣
Oh dear. Sounds like it's in hand op.

For fucks sake- never go into a supermarket, or anywhere food is stored for that matter, or have drainage near you.

As for girls, don't be so bloody patronising.

Do you really think this is a reason for children to not be in school?

They are clearly dealing with it.

Many schools in the country are old buildings, children are gross and mess, they leave food everywhere and doors are regularly left open to outside. I would say 3/4 of schools have mice at any one time.

Clarinet1 · 15/05/2023 12:11

If you see rodents running around anywhere, the problem is pretty bad. In reality there are usually some quite close at any one time; you just don’t see them which, in practice, probably means that they are not interacting too closely with the areas where people are although it is why food should be covered, crumbs and spills cleared up before an area is vacated; Anyone who’s ever done any catering work knows that the last job of the day is always to sweep and wash the floor.
However, if pest control have been brought it sounds to me as though appropriate action is being taken and the situation is well in hand. After all, we don’t know from the OP how many rats there were, in how much of the building etc.

If she was in Cork she'd address ye as lads and you'd still be whingeing. ❄

givemushypeasachance · 15/05/2023 12:43

Everywhere has rats, you just don't always see them! As long as food is being stored hygienically, and you wash your hands before eating and such, they're not a health risk. You get pest control in and just try to keep the numbers under control.

I'm from Cork and I still think 'girls' sounds ridiculous 😂

CaptainMyCaptain · 15/05/2023 13:00

We had rats on school at least twice when I was teaching. We (teachers and TAs) cleaned everything in the classroom, children were taken elsewhere while this was happening like the library, the hall or IT room. Getting in outside pest control was a separate issue.

So the school dealt with it. What more do you want them to do? If you actually saw the school dealing with it, why were contacting Tusla, etc?!

ImPrawnCrackers · 15/05/2023 18:06

!!! These things happen! The school will.put some rat boxes down! Rat boxes everywhere around my so school! :)

You sound great by the way!! With your Hullabaloo's and 'girls'! Did you go to St Trinian's?
