Recently lent friend A, who was visiting family recently several expensive items, I couldn’t see her after the last time she’d need them so the plan was she would drop them at friend Bs house nearby, when they went to drop them at friend As house they were out so they left them with a neighbour.

A few weeks went by and I eventually said to the friend B I’d need to come and pick the stuff up. She said it had never been dropped off explained about the neighbours, friend B went and checked their neighbours who clueless. When I checked with the friend A, who was now long back abroad it turned out she had got the address wrong and dropped everthing at a completely different house 1/2 a mile away and they had been binned as their neighbours had no clue what the stuff was and had kept it a few weeks and taken it to the dump.

Should friend A replace these items, think I’m annoyed as she’s never even apologised.

What a mess! Yes, I definitely think friend A should either pay up or replace. She was very irresponsible with someone else possessions and should never have left them with someone other than friend B. She should also have contacted you or friend B to check if she wasn't sure of the address, and contacted you or friend B again, to check that the items had been delivered/collected from neighbour. Sadly it's because of this sort of attitude that I don't lend things anymore, as the vast majority only seem interested when you're doing them the favour, while getting things back to you after they've had their use, seems to suddenly slip to the bottom of their mind.

Hmmm I think you have some accountability here as it was a few weeks. If you figured out the issue promptly the items wouldn’t have been disposed of?

I would without a doubt replace the items though.
