To think two large double cappuccinos can do this...

I had a horrible nights sleep and ended up waking up at 3am for a herbal tea and some toast! Woke up at 6am to tend to my DD. Went out for coffee with a friend, I have really cut back on caffeine but without thinking ordered two large cappuccinos. I'm now feeling anxious, jittery and out of sorts (doesn't help I just ate a very sugary cupcake) is this the caffeine mixed with tiredness and anything I can do to stop the jitters?

If this happens to me I drink as much water as possible and also try to eat plenty as it feels worse on an empty stomach.

Yes if I personally had that much caffeine at once I would also be very jittery....if it was one coffee it would be ok. Plus feeling on edge/ out of it from a poor night's sleep would make it worse.

pecantoucan · 13/05/2023 17:06

Absolutely can be. Drink lots of water

SoberPony · 13/05/2023 17:07

Yeah, I'm sure it could be the caffeine, especially as you haven't been having it very much lately and aren't used to it.

I am one of those people who can drink a double espresso and then have a nap, but even I would go a bit funny after too many coffees.

coffeecupsandwaxmelts · 13/05/2023 17:08

Absolutely. Caffeine plus lack of sleep will do that to you.

Grapefruittea · 13/05/2023 17:08

Thank you so much. Off to glug a litre of water! @SoberPony I cut out caffeine a few months ago, as I was drinking too much. I had the worst come down... think the worst hangover headache ever for seven days. Now if I have a coffee I just have a single shot in the morning and that's it.

I think it can. I tend to avoid coffee if if I’m had a terrible nights sleep as it makes me jittery and restless, but it still doesn’t make me feel awake or alert. I’d try a glass of water and a small meal.

MrsDoylesDoily · 13/05/2023 17:10

Yes, you've literally described the most common side effect of drinking caffeine, especially as you're not longer used to it.

Thanks all! Two pints of water and a stodgy meal and I feel back to normal xxx
