Lower wisdom tooth extraction, really nervous!

I'm having one of my lower wisdom teeth out this week and I'm really nervous about it. It's impacted/has grown in sideways. I'm going on holiday a week after and I'm now worrying if I will be ok going on holiday?

Has anyone got any positive experiences they could share or anything I can do to prepare for it as much as possible?

I had mine out recently, and was so worried but it was absolutely fine. I didn't have too much pain and it was hardly painful at all after day 4 or 5. So glad I did it! Good luck Flowers

I had an impacted lower wisdom tooth out when I was in my 20s. It was fine! Had it out on the Wednesday and was partying the night away on the Friday. Bit sore for a couple of days but nothing paracetamol couldn’t deal with.

Everyone can tell you a horror story about wisdom tooth removal but nobody tells you when it’s all fine!

I had an impacted wisdom tooth out. It went absolutely fine- I was under sedation and don't remember anything! They prescribed me strong painkillers after but I realised after being home for a day that they were making me feel worse than the tooth! I had it out Friday (late in the day) and was fine on the Monday. Everyone does love a horror story but none of mine have been at all bad 🙂

It will be fine, it's got to come out and it will feel so much better after

I had my wisdom tooth out (only local
anaesthetic) and went to work a couple of hours later without any problems. It was a bit uncomfortable for a few days but nothing I couldn’t manage with ibuprofen/paracetamol.

I’ve had all mine out 2 at a time. It was fine Under local, the numbing injections were much quicker for the bottom ones, after that all I felt was them pulling and pressure no pain.
one thing I wish someone had warned me about. Don’t eats crisps! Until the hole has closed. I had never realised how sharp a crisp can be till wedge in my raw empty socket!

It’s possible and normal that it could hurt quite a bit for 3 or 4 weeks, so pack painkillers for your hols just in case

Make sure you have some salt at home. My dentist asked me to hold salty water in my mouth over the extraction the following day several times) and after that very gently swish salted water 4/5 a day. I made it with cooled boiled water.

You could ask your dentist if they agree with this recommendation.

While you will be absolutely fine I would set aside at least the day for your own tlc if you can and more time if available. Try to talk it a little bit easy. My procedure was not painful at all but I still felt a bit shocked and delicate.

It's fine! Lower often easier than upper. I had mind, then went and did a Tesco shop. Back at work the next day. No drama.

I had all four of mine out in my late 20s and was partying a few days later.
However, I would encourage you to make sure you follow all the aftercare instructions which are likely to be salt water rinses like someone above has said, or a decent post-op mouthwash like Corsodyl.
I had the roots of a broken tooth dug out recently under GA and my dental surgeon recommended this one: https://www.sainsburys.co.uk/gol-ui/product/corsodyl-mouthwash--original-300ml
They had to dig quite deep to get it all out so possibly quite similar to what you're having - I used this as recommended and was fine (although couldn't brush in that area for over a week after the op)

Good luck !
