I'm very overweight there is no getting round this, I'm ashamed to say I'm 26.5 stones in weight , I was 30.5 stones 6 month ago and am taking steps to reduce my weight each week
My am I being reasonable is the fact my friend has bought me a ticket to go and see beyonce a week on Tuesday at the stadium of light , this is in section L31, I'm terrified I'm not going to fit in the turnstile and I'm that worried I'm thinking of not going , has anybody any experience of this particular stadium and the access arrangements ? I'm so worried about showing myself up , I'm.assuming you access the stands the same way you would a football match through the turnstiles so there is no way I will fit and i can't face the embarrassment
I hate situations like this my high Weight is ruining my life
I'm aware my friend paid 150 quid for my ticket also as a treat so very reluctant to let him down also , don't know what to do, can anybody offer any advise ?

Can you contact the venue and ask the question - on behalf of ‘your friend’ if you don’t want to say you? It may put your mind at rest and you can look forward to what is bound to be such an exciting and fun evening!

TallerThanAverage · 12/05/2023 20:41

Go to the concert, apart from your friend who won’t care why are you worrying about the opinions of people that you won’t ever see again. You’re doing so well with your weight loss…go and have a great time.

KarmaStar · 12/05/2023 20:42

Ring ahead and request another point of entry.
Please don't feel embarrassed,go and have a fantastic evening!

Oysterbabe · 12/05/2023 20:48

They must have an accessible entrance you can use.

Bluebells1970 · 12/05/2023 20:48

There will be a disabled entrance.

Just ask security on the evening, and say you'll need to use this instead of the turnstiles. I'm a size 18/20 and only just squeezed through the ones at Wembley stadium last year... felt very embarrassed but I certainly wasn't the only one! There was a large man behind me who said to security "well that ain't happening" and they sent him further round the building.

OliveWah · 12/05/2023 20:49

If you actually want to go, and it's only the access arrangements which are making you question going, then definitely call the venue and check. I'm sure it will be fine though, if they do have turnstiles, they will also have a door or gate type entrance next to them for wheelchairs. Have a fabulous time!

ApolloandDaphne · 12/05/2023 20:50

You will be able to use the disabled access. They hardly expect wheelchair users to go through turnstiles.

savethewales · 12/05/2023 20:51

I live here, you be absolutely fine. Theyll have turnstiles but also disabled access :)

Bournetilly · 12/05/2023 20:55

They will have an accessible entrance, maybe ring before hand to ask if you can use this. Don’t miss out if you otherwise want to go.

Backtonormalatlast · 12/05/2023 20:55

Go OP and have a fabulous time . You really will have a great time .

goinginsaneinthemembrane · 12/05/2023 20:58

As others have said, there will be an alternative entrance. Enjoy yourself! Congratulations on the weight loss so far that's brilliant

Door12345 · 12/05/2023 21:00

I have no idea about the stadium but wanted to say congratulations on the weight loss - that’s an incredible amount to lose in only 6 months!! 💪🏻💪🏻

PlanningTowns · 12/05/2023 21:06

So these large stadiums are set up to help. Go find an information point when you arrive and they will direct you to an accessible entrance. There are info points on the outside (well there was at Wembley last year). My hubby was temporarily on crutches (with hospital documentation) and they moved our seats on the day and couldn’t have been more helpful.

im also larger so do understand how you’re feeling but don’t let your weight stop your adventures and fun, take it from me you’ll feel worse if you don’t go.

FirstnameSuesecondnamePerb · 12/05/2023 21:11

Gosh 4 st in 6 months. You deserve a night out to celebrate!

elizzza · 12/05/2023 21:13

There’s an email address specifically for arranging accessibility issues for the Beyonce show, or a phone number for general accessibility question

maddening · 12/05/2023 21:18

Call ahead and ask about accessibility perhaps? When I had been v ill in hospital and still had drains in, a venue put me on the accessibility list and we were taken to a special area and able to use a lift as I could not manage the stairs. Go and live, positive events will be great for your mental health, you are doing well, go and enjoy yourself.

And congratulations on the weight loss 👏👏👏

StrandedStarfish · 12/05/2023 21:19

Please go. The words “Beyoncé” and “Sunderland” will probably never be in the same sentence again. It’s going to be great and you will love it

elevenplusdilemma · 12/05/2023 21:24

There must be alternative access to accommodate wheelchair users etc. Call or email the stadium. I'm sure there will be a solution.

Congratulations on your weight loss so far.

Butterflybutterflies · 12/05/2023 21:25

Go and have a great time, celebrate the progress you have made so far!

Dora33 · 12/05/2023 21:25

Congrats on your weight loss.
Go and enjoy your treat. I hate going through turnstiles. As people have said use the more accessible entrance.

TokyoSushi · 12/05/2023 21:28

Oh please don't not go because of this. They have to have disabled access so there absolutely will be another way in. Have a lovely time and well done with your weight loss!

funkylittleboatrace · 12/05/2023 21:30

I hope you go OP I’m sure it will be fine, but maybe call ahead for peace of mind . The tour looks amazing I can’t wait to see her on bank holiday Monday 🪩

Blondey2023 · 12/05/2023 21:32
