In families. The joy on your kids faces, the days out, the laughter, the closeness and love?

The little joys and challenges and fun. I know it can be hard as well but here’s a thread to celebrate all the lovely buts.

What lovely things happened to you today?

I adore my children and raising them is an amazing adventure. It brings a real feeling of deep contentment and I wouldn't change it for anything in the world.

FourTeaFallOut · 12/05/2023 18:47

Oh, as for something nice...mid morning I checked my to-do list to find, "Have a cup of tea and a lovely relax' had been added to the bottom by my 9yo.

Leapintothelightning · 12/05/2023 20:42

I ran my 3yo a bath and she said "my mummy is the best" 🥺

mondaytosunday · 12/05/2023 21:12

Funny you should mention this....Today I was waiting for my car to be serviced and I watched a Middle Eastern family across the street. Woman about 30ish, man quite a bit older, two kids about 6-8.
It was raining lightly and they were walking with some shopping to their car. The kids were running ahead and joking around. The woman was smiling and trying to contain them half heartedly as they were just being boisterous. The man was laughing trying to keep up. Just a family (or extended family) doing a normal chore on a normal day. But happy. Joyous even. It was so nice to witness a slice of their lives.

Wednesdaysotherchild · 12/05/2023 21:16

I’m childless after recurrent loss and DP has autism/alexithymia. Not a lot of happiness, love and affection here. He did make me a cup of tea though.

Ilovetea42 · 12/05/2023 21:18

Contact naps with his wee fat face smooshed up against me totally content and the massive smile he gives me when he wakes up and sees me. No feeling like it in the world.

Sudokufail · 12/05/2023 21:21

My cat brought me coffee in bed this morning :)

ACatCalledPuss · 12/05/2023 21:22

My boss let me go home am hour early because it was a beautiful day so I could get out and enjoy it. My dh made me a gorgeous fillet steak dinner to celebrate the end of a medical issue I had. Not a bad day really all round!

Titsywoo · 12/05/2023 21:35

I don't get many cuddles from my DC nowadays but DD has come for a snuggle on the sofa every evening recently - she starts her ALevels next week and is feeling anxious. Both DS and DD make me laugh so much every day - some say the teenage years are horrible but I found them to be the best part!

JMSA · 12/05/2023 21:39

I feel bad reading some of these, as I have the most unaffectionate daughters ever!
I'm a hugger and am verbally loving, but they're just not like their dad.

ranoutofquinoaandprosecco · 12/05/2023 21:40

My 12 year old DD, loves saying good job momma, as she says it makes me smile every time! My 9 year old DS tried to say it and she told him he needed his own thing! He retorted that he always says love you to nan and beyond! Love them both so much.

awakeeveeynight · 12/05/2023 21:42

We went out for kids tea and DH and DD chased and tickled each other the whole way home. It was joyous.

Starhead69 · 12/05/2023 21:45

It’s been a tough day today. Finding out how my Dad’s incurable cancer is going to be managed.

my teenage daughter told me I’m her best friend when I was upset

Tessabelle74 · 12/05/2023 21:48

My 6 year old wrote me a little note that she threw at me that simply said "I love you" on it ❤️

StopGrowingPlease · 12/05/2023 21:51

Being a mum is the absolute best thing in the world 🥰 I have a 20 month old little boy and he is the best thing that has ever happened to me and I can’t imagine anything more precious and wonderful 💕

He’s really independent and is happy to just go off and explore most of the time but recently when we’ve been at his toddler groups and classes he keeps coming back to me for cuddles in between what he is doing and it is so sweet ☺️🤗 He’s started wanting to be picked up at random times too and will put his arms up for me to get him which is nice 😊

At his one of his classes today they were doing the bit where they run around and he wanted me to pick him up and carry him around instead which was nice as he’s always off and running around 😅

Then when I put him to bed tonight he didn’t fight it that much, he breastfed then laid there as I cuddled him and sang to him until he fell asleep and I stayed there holding him for about half an hour afterwards as it was just a really nice moment to share with him 🥰

I don’t want him to grow up as I know that all of this will go away which is pretty painful to think about 😢 I just hope that as he grows we will have a nice relationship and he won’t be too horrible go me when he’s a teenager 🤞🙏

StrictlyAFemaleFemale · 12/05/2023 21:53

It's what the mums on teen mom said at the reunion. No one told them how much love there would be.

I sneezed DD said bless you Mummy.

AngelinaFibres · 12/05/2023 22:31

I have a 14 month old grandson. I look after him one day a week. I am having the best time of my life. He naps 2x a day and he falls asleep on my lap. When he is all warm and snuggled in and snoring it is the most wonderful thing. I am making the most of it. I watch him sleep and think over and over " you are my grandson you are". Its so utterly wonderful that I have to pinch myself that it's real.

Knickerthief1 · 12/05/2023 22:42

I love that despite being 16 my daughters face lights up when I get in from work and she still wants a big hug.
And I'm so proud of my 18 year old who is away at uni, yet has still choosen to visit her grandparents this weekend.

gallina · 12/05/2023 22:43

My beautiful middle daughter is on the pathway to be assessed for asd.

Today she looked me in the eye and genuinely smiled at me.

She giggled uncontrollably with her younger sister. My heart is so full I could cry, todays been nice 😊

Watermelonbathbomb · 12/05/2023 23:29

My daughter is so beautiful and looks just like a toddler when she is sleeping in the morning. She tells me hilarious stories about antics in the classroom - the way she describes her class it sounds like a sitcom - and today told me that she wanted to go to an event just with me (normally she wants to take a friend). I often look at her and cannot believe that this incredible human being was once my tiny baby, and before that just a bundle of cells! I had no idea how much love I could feel before I had her.

Watermelonbathbomb · 12/05/2023 23:31

@AngelinaFibres I love your description. Enjoy every moment!

Emelene · 12/05/2023 23:35

My 4 year old started a new nursery last month, in preparation for starting school. She won “star of the week” today and was absolutely over the moon. Her little proud face holding her certificate. 😍😭

DyslexicPoster · 12/05/2023 23:36

My 11 year old son who was illiterate this time last year and non verbal at 7 completed his phonics phases today and two parents at karate both said they would never guess he goes to a SEN school. He has come so far. Such a trooper. So proud of him but of course I can't post that on FB.

Onesailwait · 12/05/2023 23:51

Last night I went to a school concert for the first time in what seems like forever. 2 of mine were in it 1 had a solo guitar & singing part and 1 was on the drums. They both looked a little nervous and I could see them looking for me. Both gave me a massive smile and wave once they spotted me in the audience. They were fabulous as were all the kids who took part. So, so proud and so happy. I'm taking them out for dinner tonight as my mother's day treat to myself

HerRoyalNotness · 12/05/2023 23:51

I went to Dds school this morning for a Mother’s Day muffin. The kinder moms got to go. There was someone there for every kid in the class and they were so proud to show their moms their gifts and serve them. One of DDs desk mates is a handful but he introduced his mom and told me what she did for work. He was so happy to have her there, his little eyes were shining. DD was also chuffed to see me as she always is and gave me lots of cuddles
