To find MIL has moved my plants to plant something of her own in my garden without telling me?

I just come home having been out all day to find MIL has moved all the nice plants that i planted yesterday in a big pot and squished them all up so they all really close together just so she could make room to plant what looks like a small christmas tree. It looks like a christmas tree but it's not. I am not sure what it is.

AIBU to think this is so rude especially as she has done this without even asking if i wanted the damb thing in the first place which i don't. MIL and i have very different tastes in plants. She hasn't left any messages on the answering machine either to say she was coming round or bringing plants.

I know this does sound petty but it has really annoyed me.

Take it out and replant your stuff.

nailpolish · 18/02/2008 16:35

move them back

MissMalaprop · 18/02/2008 16:36

How rude! Bin it and put your nice plants back where they belong. Also, put a lock on your garden gate.

Threadworm · 18/02/2008 16:36

That's the sort of thing my MIL has done in my garden from time to time. Take them out. Tell her thanks but no thanks.

Jackstini · 18/02/2008 16:37

YANBU no. Does she usually just let herself in without permission? (just garden or house too?)I would be annoyed at the time I had spent arranging the plants how I liked them beng undone!
Take hers out and put in a separate pot. You can hide it most of the time and just bring it out when she comes round saying "oh it deserved its own pot"

jumpingbeans · 18/02/2008 16:38

I know it not funny, but i did lol , who in there right minds would do something like that, perhaps she thought you would like it, are you sure it was her and not a garden makeover gang.

The pot is by the front door. Last year i when i was pregnant, i came downstairs with my dressing gown open to be suprised by her who had come through the side gate and started gardening in the back garden! She hadn't even rang the doorbell to let us know she was there.

This year i told her i don't need any help because she always brings the plants she likes round and plants them. I though as i had told her i don't need any help she would have got the hint!

I think it's her way of marking the territory. She might as well come and pee all around the garden!

Strange lady!, I am more the mil whos sits in the garden and points out what should go where, and what plants my dd or dil should put in, I like to see how far down they can grind their teeth before telling me to piss off, far play to them they last longer than I ever would, they must be much better mannered than i am

TheBlonde · 18/02/2008 16:48

dig it up and bin it
some MIL's don't get the hint you have to spell it out to them

BackToBasics · 18/02/2008 16:49

I don't think i am brave enough to bin it tbh.
