Do you paint your own house?

All downstairs needs painting, plus outside seating section walls
Do you do your own, if so, how long does it take you? Or do you hire someone?
We've done both before, just expensive, but doing it ourselves seems to take so long. Would you try to do it all in one week/weekend for example or a wall
a time?

Yes we do.
The royal we.
My husband wields the roller.
I do the super helpful "you missed a bit" that in no way will one day get me painted!

Same in our house, I project manage.

We get the decorators in every 2-3 years to redo the high traffic areas, hall stairs and landing, kitchen, front room. Bedrooms maybe every 5 years or so, things just need freshening up.

We paid for professionals to do our hallway, dh is doing the rest.

It was expensive but I wanted a really good finish and worried dh would break his neck trying to do the high bits of the hallway🤣

We haven’t decorated most of our house for 15 years so long overdue!

Yes I paint myself, however it’s a skill to be learned like any if you and a professional finish.

LumpySpaceGoddess · 11/05/2023 09:19

I did my entire house over a week. I’ve always done my own decorating.

Op three years isn’t long. If the walls are dirty it’s as they need cleaned not repainted, try a magic sponge. The answer really is to keep on top of the dirt.

Yes. Have hired “professionals” but my work is better. I’m slower but far neater.

We paint all the rooms except for the hall, stairs and landing. 10 doors, bannisters, newel posts and spindles plus the space over the stairwell are a job for a professional in my opinion.

The exterior is rendered so we get a professional in for that. It also means doing the front door and garage door.
