To have "ejected" this guy from the gym studio?

Our large gym has a studio for classes, and they run virtual classes on a big screen. I enjoy going to these in the evening but haven't been for a few weeks.

When I was about ten minutes into the class (combat) a man walked in. He stood looking at the screen for a minute and I assumed he had come to join the class. Anyway, he loaded weights on to a bar and proceeded to do walking lunges up and down the room, not blocking the screen but totally in my line of vision which was really off putting when trying to follow a routine.

I approached him and asked if he planned to join in the class, he said no so I said "you can't come into a class and do your own thing, it's really off putting". He said "is it really a problem for you?" I said yes so he slammed all his weights back on the rack and stormed off. I was left wondering if it's completely acceptable to do this and maybe I'm out of order? I wouldn't do it myself!

You did nothing wrong

VaulterTech · 09/05/2023 21:29

Urgh, what an awful human. Well done op, defo the right thing to do!

Augend23 · 09/05/2023 21:32

Totally legit, assuming there's anywhere else he could be doing his weights? If not then I feel more evenly split but even then he must have know he was taking the piss.

Yes there's a massive gym downstairs.

My gym has a very similar set up (David Lloyd?) and it would be absolutely totally out of order to come in during a screening of a recorded class like that and do your own thing! You were absolutely right to call it out. If there’s a big separate gym that’s where he should have been

Fudgewomble · 09/05/2023 21:36

And particularly because you need to concentrate during combat!

BCBird · 09/05/2023 21:37

Threw his dummy.out the pram.did he? 🤣

Pinkflipflop85 · 09/05/2023 21:40

He thought his penis gave him the right to do whatever he wanted.

Well done for telling him otherwise

rwalker · 09/05/2023 21:42

My gym has a studio that’s available most of the day for individuals to train
but they have classes on at peak times this happens a lot as it isn’t clear you can’t use the studio when class on

Exactly, I was put right off.

Yes there's a massive gym downstairs.

Then that really is absurd.

My gym even has a long track thing with weights etc next to it for if you want to do weighted lunges or whatever.

So does ours! Presume it was in use but he can still stay the hell out of the studio when it's in use.

Think of it this way, if it had been an in-person class with a PT leading it in the studio, he would not have done that!

You were totally justified OP

VaddaABeetch · 09/05/2023 21:54

He was showing the little woman what a big strong very important man he is.

really there’s no talking to women these days, u you oh can’t say ANYTHING.

UWhatNow · 09/05/2023 21:57

It really was combat! Good for you op. More women need to speak up (safely) and challenge male entitlement. It needs to be a massive bloody faux pas to do this shit, rather than the manspreading norm.

Luredbyapomegranate · 09/05/2023 21:58

You were entirely within your rights.

It’s a great demonstration of why men tend to get better jobs etc -

he’s quite happy to crash into a class space and start doing his own weight training and fuck the people mostly women? who’ve paid for a class

You have paid for the class and are worrying whether to have the right to do it in peace.. yep you do have that right.

He's a filthy toilet brush

Showdogworkingdog · 09/05/2023 22:37

My gym has a similar set up. Members can only use the studio to exercise in if there are no classes taking place - that’s real and virtual classes and there’s a big ass sign on the door telling you that. I’ve noticed when I’ve rocked up for my yoga class a few times some members like to preen in the big mirrors in there while they’re doing what they’re doing, it seems to attract a certain type. He was being a dick, I’d have a word with reception and ask them to put some signs up.

Soapyspuds · 09/05/2023 22:46

Good on you!

KarmaStar · 09/05/2023 22:52

We have a studio like that and several people share it to do their own workout.you were not in a class, just you watching a video.ywbu.

It was a virtual class, and there is a massive gym where he could've marched up and down with his weights 🙄

OP posts:
rwalker · 10/05/2023 09:55

Complain to the gym what’s the policy on the room when virtual classes are on

unless there’s signs up and it the policy of the gym it’s for people partaking in class only and they make members aware of that the guy has done nothing wrong and you are being unreasonable

the fault could be with the gym not the guy you marched out

gymwars · 10/05/2023 09:56

I asked at reception on the way out, she agreed that they shouldn't be going in when there's a class on, virtual or otherwise (unless it's a virtual with nobody taking part)

have they put signs up replied previously about similar at my gym
they had a a4 notice on door tbh who reads them

they have a flip chart now saying class in progress

it’s alright having rules but less people know what they are no one will follow them
