Two days off alone..what would you do?

It wasn’t planned, but I have two days off work tomorrow & Wednesday. It never happens, I’m either working or looking after Dd. She’ll be at Pre school 9-3, Dh at work, friends now all returned back to work..what to do, what to do…??
I live abroad and it’s hot where I am, I think I’m so not used to being alone, I’ve no idea what to do 🙈I need to use this time wisely!
What would you do?

I would run (maybe not in major heat though!), swim, have a massage and either read a book or binge a short boxset. Maybe a concert or museum / gallery on the off chance the timing can work.

I fantasise about this a lot Grin

Your idea of bliss may be radically different from mine though!

Allthosecrazyfolk · 08/05/2023 21:18

@notsurewherenotsurewhy Too hot to run 🙈I could swim but not sure where, massage not my thing. Definitely read or box set, but seems a waste to stay indoors and watch tv..I don’t knowwww

I would do yoga. I would also run or walk. I was alone back in Feb and went to cinema on my own twice it was lovely.

Neverknowinglysensible · 08/05/2023 21:36

Obviously it depends where you are, but a really good mooch around shops you might not normally have time to visit would be my choice (followed by a lovely daytime sleep).

MrDrEvilPorkChopToYou · 08/05/2023 21:37

I would go to a museum and have a lovely time browsing on the first day. Read a book on the train on the way back

On the second day, go to a botanical garden, and then have lunch on my own in a restaurant. Get back home by 2 and watch an hour of unsuitable tv

HowDoYouDoWhatYouDoToMeIWishIKnew · 08/05/2023 21:41

On the very rare day I have with no dc and nothing much to do I take my paints and sketch pad to the beach, and spend the day drawing and painting, headphones in, a flask and some sandwiches (or I go to the beachside cafe here if I'm feeling flush). Absolute perfection, I get maybe one every 6 months.

Whatever you decide I hope you have the most amazing time 💐

shakeitoffsis · 08/05/2023 21:42

This sounds like heaven. Go for a lovely long walk once the kid is at preschool, podcast on and take myself out for lunch! Then I'd get back and go to bed and nap!

nobodygoesdowninthejungle · 08/05/2023 21:42

When this happened to me recently, I spent the first day in bed reading and the second day having a very efficient sort out and reorganisation of the play room.

Oysterbabe · 08/05/2023 21:43

In nice weather go to the allotment and do some work there. If it's raining, crochet while watching true crime documentaries.

Justtrying · 08/05/2023 21:46

I'd spend the first day catching up on housework/life admin/garden followed a pampering bath/shower using all the products I keep for a rainy day. A yummy tea that is minimal effort. Day 2 serious me time, museum, walk somewhere tranquil, beach/gardens/aircon mall what ever suits. Lazy lunch reading a good book. Then after preparing a nutrious dinner chill either with a spa treatment or box set.

DrMarciaFieldstone · 08/05/2023 21:47

Run, long dog walk, yoga, massage, solo lunch, sit outside with a cold drink and a book, foot spa, cook something really delicious from scratch and sit down and eat it, SO many options!

Allthosecrazyfolk · 08/05/2023 22:00

Love the cinema idea…have done this twice in my life on my own in the middle of a weekday, only one other person in the cinema..bought some treats from the shop beforehand to smuggle in..heaven!
Definitely not doing any sorting/organising/cleaning etc, not wasting it 😅

Got tomorrow off. I’m going swimming and going to sort the garden out……

JMSA · 08/05/2023 23:03

Read, eat, sleep, watch Netflix.
I never struggle alone.

Maloneyb · 19/06/2023 14:30

Book a massage
go have a nice brunch somewhere
window shop
swimming

wellnessstorm · 19/06/2023 14:32

Sounds glorious OP! At the moment I would lock myself in a dark room, listening to the silence and revelling in it!

Smoky1107 · 19/06/2023 14:33

I'd spend one day just in the house alone. Total peace and tranquillity.
I actually cried this morning when my husband cancelled his plans to work in the office and stayed home. I am never ever alone at home and I'd love a day where I was

Nordicrain · 19/06/2023 14:34

Go for a long walk/ hike somewhere beautiful. Run. Go shopping. Go for a peaceful lunch. Have a long bath.

ChippyTea16 · 19/06/2023 14:51

Ooh I would download some good podcasts or a really good playlist and go for a long walk somewhere and enjoy the peace and the fresh air. I'd stop for lunch somewhere nice and walk back then spend the rest of the day either reading or watching something only I like with lots of my favourite snacks. I also wouldn't waste it cleaning if it wasn't a regular occurrence but I'd probably have a quick tidy so I could enjoy it more.

In the hot weather I think I'd just sit in my garden with some good tunes and nice food or go out for tea and cake somewhere nice.

purplecorkheart · 19/06/2023 14:58

I would go and buy a really good book (I normally use a Kindle but would buy a paperback as a treat). and find myself a coffee shop in a spot where there is great people watching opportunity. I would maybe go and get a facial or pedicure as a nice treat and then for a nice lunch.

FinallyHere · 19/06/2023 20:13

I would have one very active day, some yoga mobility to wake up, leisurely late breakfast and a good long hike.

The next day, I'd consider doing that again or staying in bed with a great book.

Hope you find what makes you happy.

SunLover1985 · 19/06/2023 20:19

I’d go to London, book either something at the theatre or the opera (never been, always wanted to), then spend the rest of it visiting some of the tourist sites that I’ve not got around to, like the Handel / Hendrix House.

If I had to stay local, there’s an outdoor swimming pool I’ve always wanted to go to.

Dontknowwhattopick · 19/06/2023 20:28

This has made me realise how I am potentially wasting my days off. I have just finished uni so have a brief window where I have Monday/Tuesdays off work and kids in school before the summer holidays and my new job starting in September and I am wasting them.
I did go to the hairdressers and then chill with a box set today and tomorrow is a planned cleaning day but I should really use my time better. I might go to the cinema or for a massage next week 🤔I want to make the most of the next 4 weeks I get to have regular me time
I hope you find something you enjoy op

Cherrysherbet · 19/06/2023 20:29

In a fantasy world I would ….

Have a lie in
Go to a lovely cafe and eat lots of cake
Relax in the garden
Look around town and buy some nice things for myself.
Get stuck into some beautiful craft projects and spend hours on them.
Order my favourite food in for dinner.

In the real world I would ……

Declutter
clean
Go round in circles with the above and get nowhere.
Wonder where the time went and ask myself how I got so little done.

If I’m absolutely honest though, I would pull dc out of pre school and do something nice together.

Ragwort · 19/06/2023 20:32

What do you enjoy doing? I've always managed to have frequent days off for myself ... depending in where I lived at the time my favourite thing to do is to go to the beach or an outdoor pool. I take a nice picnic and a good book ... my perfect way to spend a day (weather permitting of course).
