Drs appointment tomorrow for tiny lump. Handhold needed

Sorry to post on here but I'm starting to shite my pants and just wanted a handhold.

Last week I found a tiny, semi hard, lump underneath my areola, I have a GP appointment tomorrow and hopefully she'll refer me to the breast clinic.

I'm really trying not to catastrophize too much and tell myself it's more likely to be nothing serious but, women in their 30s get diagnosed more and more often.

Please encourage me not to go to bed for two weeks until my referral comes through 😫

Good luck, I’ve had 3 lumps over 4 years that have all required urgent referrals and only been cysts. Hopefully you’ll be seen quickly and that it’s nothing to be concerned about. You’re doing the right thing getting checked out but I found nothing except keeping busy helped with the wait before appointment. Lots of love and positive thoughts

Hey OP

Try not to worry, 9/10 lumps are benign so the odds are in your favour.

In the meantime, you could pop over to the cancer support thread, they offer handholds and reassurance for people at your early phase and I'm sure you'll enjoy their company.

Try not to worry op easier said than done I know, I’ve had two lumps at different times under left armpit both were cysts and fine

DilemmaDelilah · 08/05/2023 22:18

I've just been referred for a 2 week wait appointment and I'm really worried too. I said that to my doctor on Friday - she reminded me that most breast cancers (if that is what I had) were very treatable, and it would probably turn out to be something else entirely anyway. I have already had a benign tumour removed so I know that lumps are not necessarily bad news, but like you I am very worried. Let's hope that both of us are worrying about nothing.

Just got back from my appointment. She said it doesn't feel like anything suspicious but sending me for a scan just in case.

🤞🏻🤞🏻

Good luck @DilemmaDelilah xx

Thank you @overthinkersanonnymus . I look forward to reporting back that it was all a fuss about nothing! (Fingers crossed)

overthinkersanonnymus · 09/05/2023 21:17

@overthinkersanonnymus mine is next Tuesday at 2.30. I hope everything goes well for you.

Dontfuckingsaycheese · 10/05/2023 07:29

I had similar a few weeks ago. I went for a routine mammogram and they identified ‘a change’. I was whipped in for further assessment. Of course I was thinking the worst. They gave me the full monty with further mammograms and an ultrasound. A cyst was identified and they drained it there and then then did another mammogram to check they’d removed it. I was out by lunchtime. All very quick, professional and reassuring. It’s the wait that’s the worst - even though it was all done very speedily it still gave my imagination to go into overdrive.

DilemmaDelilah · 10/05/2023 10:35

@overthinkersanonnymus you have probably been told to allow several hours for your appointment, I certainly have. Don't panic about that - there are lots of tests to be done and you will probably need to wait around between them as they won't all be in the same place. It is pretty likely you will need a biopsy, don't panic about that either, it's really not a difficult or particularly painful process. Take a good book and some water and money for snacks/lunch. My DH will be taking me but I hope he will go away again and come back later to pick me up - I can't be doing with him being nervous and fussing around! We will have a meal in the hospital restaurant afterwards I think - saves cooking, the food is actually pretty good - and I get staff discount 😁

Thanks for everyone's replies girls. Im clinging on to the fact that it's quite small and mobile that it's likely not cancer but im still trying to prepare myself for bad news.

I feel quite calm at the moment but it's going to be a very long two weeks.

@DilemmaDelilah that's really good that your appointment is so soon. Please keep us updated xx

@DilemmaDelilah good luck for your appointment tomorrow xx

Thank you @overthinkersanonnymus . I am being swan-like at the moment... outwardly cool calm and collected but all of a fluster inside. I confess I found it quite difficult to concentrate at work today! The worst thing is that I managed to upset my adult daughter yesterday by doing something I probably wouldn't have done it I had been thinking clearly, and I can't tell her why until I know for sure what's going on. It will be a long couple of weeks until I get my results. The good thing about THAT is that it means I am unlikely to start treatment (if necessary) until after half term so I will still be able to do my grandparently half term childcare duties. 😁. I will keep you posted as to what is happening.

overthinkersanonnymus · 23/05/2023 08:34

Just to update this thread in case anyone is searching in the future.

The tiny lump I felt was just a duct, It feels like a poppy seed and is quite hard. I worried about the fact it was hard, but it turns out it's nothing to worry about at all

Thanks for everyone's hand holds in the beginning x
