Holiday let with inadequate curtains, AIBU?

We’ve paid £1,000 for 7 nights in a holiday let. The master bedroom has no curtains or blinds in about 4ft of window and so I am awake early as it’s bright. diagram attached.

it’s an awkward window but I still think it’s unreasonable not to cover it if you’re letting it. This is a professional holiday let.

There are 2 other double bedrooms but dh is in one of them and they are 2 floors down, deliberately, as I snore. So I can’t use the other one as then he won’t sleep because of my snoring.

I’d rather go home than not sleep all week. It’s 2.5 hours away. AIBU?

You can't expect the rooms to be furnished to your taste. You should have looked at the photos.
Personally, I don't know anyone who has curtains who isn't over the age of 76. It's not considered the thing to have in your house.
Buy an eye mask like they used to give out on aeroplanes.

😂😂😂 Really?? Everyone I know has curtains.

piedbeauty · 10/05/2023 12:39

Sleep in the room next to dh. Surely your snoring isn't so loud that you have to sleep on separate floors?

And contact the owner about putting up a temporary blind at least.

piedbeauty · 10/05/2023 12:42

Glad you got it sorted!!

Imisssleep2 · 10/05/2023 13:24

It should have a blind but you are being unreasonable to cancel a holiday over it! Could you not swap rooms with husband then your still the same distance apart? Get an eye mask, i slept with one at our old house due to security lights on a nearby commercial property creating a disco overnight and my curtains didnt block it enough, and now i struggle to sleep without one!

Why would she swap rooms when the problem was resolved two days ago?

Go to local shop, get some tape and black bin bags. This is a solution. Stop moaning and enjoy your holiday. Life is far too short for all this nonsense

Oh if only life wasn't too short to read OP's updates!!
• It's been resolved days ago by the house owner.
• The OP couldn't cover up a 10ft window.

Yeah but it’s such a delicious thread. It’s not every day you read that curtains aren’t the done thing unless you’re older than 76 😂

elderly neighbours are being inundated as we speak with peoples hastily discarded curtains and blinds. As we all embrace an exposed life of bare windows, early awakenings, putting our kids to bed with daylight streaming through, a lack of privacy, no insulation and getting undressed in the dark..

MissHavershamReturns · 10/05/2023 21:43

@Napoleonsjosephine i couldn’t agree more! That post made a miserable bank holiday bright for me.

Doggate1 · 10/05/2023 23:12

@Napoleonsjosephine it took all my strength to not comment on how horrified I was that one would stay in a £1000 holiday let… I nearly choked on my kumquat..

What?!!!! Everyone I know has curtains and 99% of the people I know are much younger than 76. This is such a bizarre comment! 😵‍💫

Eh? I'm 29 and have always had curtains/blinds in my home and I can't think of one friend of mine that doesn't.

You have to remove them immediately.

You can have them back in 47 years.

elm26 · 11/05/2023 19:57

@LittleBearPad that made me laugh 😂

PeachyPeachTrees · 12/05/2023 19:06

I had a holiday home for a week, a few years ago. All 4 of the bedrooms had net curtains but no proper curtains and it was July, so early sunrise. It spoiled the holiday as I didn't get the lie ins I was looking forward to.

Portakalkedi · 27/10/2023 23:16

The owner's are charging that much but are too tight to pay for something at the window? Hope you give them a suitable review.
