To feel spooked out lol

We have a vintage house phone, one that is SO loud when it rings and tbh no one ever rings. At 4.30am it rings, I wake up and cba to go downstairs so let it ring hoping it will stop but it doesn’t. So I get up and the min I answer it’s dead the other side. I put it back and go to walk away and it rings again. An old lady in a posh voice says her name, her number (extremely fast talking and half dazed I didn’t get it) that she’s sorry for bothering me, goodbye and hangs up.
Has anyone had this before? Before I even had chance to say she had the wrong number she had put it down. It’s how she just was saying it so fast then put the number down.

No but I too would be really freaked out by that 😵

Indoorvoicesbluey · 08/05/2023 05:09

Just what I need after being up with dd6 with diarrhoea lol

It's happened to me lots of times on both landline and mobile. People often hang up quickly when they realise they've rung the wrong number. I spoke to my cousin today and she said she'd left me a message but she hadn't - she obviously dialled the wrong number :-). It happens. Don't worry about it.

Festivfrenzy · 08/05/2023 05:22

Poor lady maybe she has dementia. I'd be spooked too though!!

CurlewKate · 08/05/2023 06:39

Sorry? Why would someone getting a wrong number spook you?

YomAsalYomBasal · 08/05/2023 06:47

Someone called me on my (never used) landline and whispered "did you do it?" I didn't sleep for days wondering who it was and what they thought I'd done!

greencardigangirl · 08/05/2023 06:59

So it spooked you and made you laugh out loud too?

tatteddear · 08/05/2023 07:35

This used to happen occasionally in our (also vintage) landline phone in our very old house. And tbh when it happened in the middle of the night it used to give me the willies too. It just feels a bit horror filmy and weird. In the day time you can reason it as a wrong number etc but at night everything seems a bit off.

hauntedvagina · 08/05/2023 21:02

Can you dial 1471 to get the number?

Clarich007 · 08/05/2023 21:05

Ring 1471.
My Mum in law had dementia and used to ring us up all hours of the night and say things like this..

Now that is fucked up 😱😱

Daisybuttercup12345 · 08/05/2023 23:41

Person with dementia I expect.

custardbear · 08/05/2023 23:45

If she says her name is Rose, move out and burn the phone!

Think OP was just trying to make light of the fact she had disturbed sleep, and then the strange phone call happened. Why focus on the lol at the end of the post?

PToosher · 08/05/2023 23:58

When I was a kid in the 70s, we had a call in the middle of the night that woke us all up. Dad answered, 'We have a call for you from Beirut.'
Dad says, 'What?'
The call comes through, they said, 'It is done.' And they hung up.
He was somewhat freaked out.

I was just thinking this 😂

mydoghasanattitude · 09/05/2023 00:07

Creepy! I'm glad we got rid of our old landline phone...

Beeinalily · 09/05/2023 03:39

@YomAsalYomBasal your call was clearly meant for @PToosher 's caller, (with a bit of time travel involved). But who is Rose?

It's a film called The Caller ... very creepy!

Why? So she can call them back? That's even more weird than getting spooked by a wrong number in the first place!

hauntedvagina · 09/05/2023 08:16

@KrisAkabusi because should it happen again, she can see if it's coming from the same number. Or see if it's a number she recognises.

Really? That's the first thing I would have done! And write the number down, maybe call it in the morning.
