Dh and 2ds' are at the match. We're going to a family house party near the ground after so I came into town shopping.

Forgot it was Sunday and that the shops shut early - and to be fair, I'm shit at shopping and got bored quickly

I bought a book and am on my 2nd pint (but 1st cake)

Text a pal and she thinks I'm weird and should have gone to a coffee shop instead of the pub!

Cider and fudge cake sounds lovely. I'm in a pub now with a glass of red and a cheese and onion roll.

sixthvestibule · 08/05/2023 14:05

I love a solo pint and a spot of pretending to read while just mulling over things.

When I'm Queen of the World, it will be compulsory for every pub to sell cheese and onion toasties.

@RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie DH and I often talk about opening the perfect pub. There are only two items on the food menu.
Cheese toastie
Lumpit

If you don't want a cheese toastie you can Lump it.
I'll allow cake, in honour of this thread.

I did this once, in a very quiet pub in a city centre.
A random woman came over and aggressively asked me to leave. Initially I thought she was staff and upset that I'd been there for a while and long since finished the cake. But she wasn't. Told me that I was offending her sitting there reading.

I stood my ground but admittedly haven't done it since!

I think that woman must have had MH problems!

We're on AIBU and the replies are far too reasonable, why has no one mentioned all the calories or the alcohol or whatever

I saw a thread where a woman was accused of being an alcoholic as she enjoyed a drink by herself! 😬

I have never seen a thread where a woman is accused of being fat for enjoying a cake by herself!

I drop off DC to cricket practice every Sunday afternoon all through the winter. Parents can't stay and watch as there is not enough room. It's too far to drive home and back so I go to a nearby Wethersoons pub. I have a meal and a latte or two. Read my book if nothing interesting on the TV. After two hours drive back to pick DS up. Perfectly normal behaviour.

😂
Cheese and onion toastie
Chips
Onion bahjis and veggie samosas with chilli sauce and minty yoghurt
A really good side salad

The above menu would satisfy my every pub need

I fairly regularly find myself with a spare solo hour between things late afternoon/early evening in London and am a big fan of finding a nice bar, ordering a dry martini and some olives and reading my Kindle or doing emails. Also mid-40s and happily at the age where I am largely invisible and also give zero fucks about what anyone else thinks.

Crucible · 08/05/2023 15:13

@RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie I like your style.

ASGIRC · 08/05/2023 16:31

Also an over 40 woman here who would absolutely kill time in a pub with a pint (of beer) and some crisps (not cake!). With a book or with my phone!

DobbysTeaCosy · 08/05/2023 16:35

Sounds absolutely lush.
Mine's a Guinness and some chilli cheesy chips.

Dollmeup · 08/05/2023 16:55

If have gone for crisps rather than cake, but otherwise sounds great and I'm quite jealous.

ThinWomansBrain · 08/05/2023 16:59

Cake needs tea,
Preferably in a pot

QueefQueen80s · 08/05/2023 17:12

I hate this notion that doing things alone is weird, that's their own insecurity and close mindedness talking.

Invisible how? I never understand this, I notice everyone.

Abhannmor · 08/05/2023 17:32

Crusty cheese roll with a pint - preferably stout or a good ale. Yum.

ThatWhiteElephant · 08/05/2023 19:02

Yabu to eat cake with a pint, now crisps or nuts would be a much better choice, imo Wink

But seriously I hope you enjoyed some 'you' time.

Lurkingandlearning · 08/05/2023 19:34

Cider and fudge cake sounds good- toffee apple ish
