to be in the pub on my own with a pint, a cake and a book?

Dh and 2ds' are at the match. We're going to a family house party near the ground after so I came into town shopping.

Forgot it was Sunday and that the shops shut early - and to be fair, I'm shit at shopping and got bored quickly

I bought a book and am on my 2nd pint (but 1st cake)

Text a pal and she thinks I'm weird and should have gone to a coffee shop instead of the pub!

It's pint and crisps or tea and cake so you're a little bit unreasonable on that front, but otherwise sounds like an absolutely ideal way to spend Sunday afternoon.

Lannielou · 07/05/2023 19:06

Sounds bloody awesome

BansheeofInisherin · 07/05/2023 19:10

why is it weird?

Firstmonthfree · 07/05/2023 19:12

Go for it. I regularly go to the pub just me and my dog. At least I get sensible conversation with him

Lcb123 · 07/05/2023 19:16

Sounds perfect. Enjoy

Beer with cake is odd, but otherwise it sounds brilliant.

GoodChat · 07/05/2023 19:16

Fudge cake and cider is completely different to a Victoria sponge and a pint. I think that sounds like bliss OP.

I meant to say Victoria sponge and lager Grin

Sounds amazing, for me I’d have picked a large rose, bag of nuts and a book….. I’d pick it over a coffee shop any day!

StaySpicy · 07/05/2023 19:20

Pubs are usually so much cosier than coffee shops, anyway.

Sounds blissful, OP! (I'd have had scampi fries crisps with a real ale but each to their own!)

Love the username. Are you in the north east?

Cake and beer is fine in my book. Crisps also good but sometimes the beer suits cake better

Allwelcone · 07/05/2023 19:22

Beer /cider and cake could be a new thing? Sounds nice - quite quaint
Was your friend disapproving about you being in a pub on your tod?

Veryverycalmnow · 07/05/2023 19:23

I do this- it's a treat xx

XBealtaine · 07/05/2023 19:23

Sounds good! Enjoy.

Findyourneutralspace · 07/05/2023 19:23

Unreasonable? No, you’re living the dream!!

Jusmakingit · 07/05/2023 19:26

Jusmakingit · 07/05/2023 19:26

I've been doing that ever since the distant days when I had to wait for DD to come out of music rehearsals and it was too far to go home in between. I still go-I'm a carer now for DH and it's a nice break. It's in a university part of town and no-one cares two hoots;I'm certainly not the only one.

I think you have it made 😎

Sounds perfect. It’s good to be alone sometimes :) What book did you buy if you don’t mind me prying ?

hettiethehare · 07/05/2023 19:39

I’d happily have a slice of something like tea cake with a pint. I’m perfectly happy to find a pub and have a pint and bother my book if I have an hour to spare - in fact I do it on a weekly basis whilst DD is at an activity we walk home from, and it is a highlight of my week!

A Marian Keyes one. Not sure of the name - it was in the WHSmiths chart so recent!? It's in my bag and I've had many more drinks (with friends , not all on my own!)

Yeah - we're over 40 so should be in coffee shops not pubs on our own apparently!
