Can you become elegant?

Or are you just born with it or not?

I attended a wedding recently and seeing candid photos and videos of me moving and standing made me feel embarrassed.

Vs seeing Princess of Wales yesterday, moving so elegantly. My SIL has it too!

Have you never seen My fair lady? Grin
I think some people can be naturally graceful but it is something you can definitely get better at with practice. I’m not sure they still do deportment lessons but there are YouTube videos you can watch for tips.

Isn’t that what finishing schools were for?

dudsville · 07/05/2023 18:01

I used to be graceful, i don't think i am anymore. I do try to remember to walk well, belly button in, shoulders back, etc., i can't run well though - i look like pheobe, my feet just bounce all over the place making me kind of dip and dive.

I think you probably can if you are willing to put a lot of conscious effort in until it becomes habit and muscle memory.
Standing up straight, shoulders back and chin up is a good start.

Yoga, Pilates and dance all help you become aware of your body and how you hold and carry yourself. Yes you can become elegant and create it, I’ve done it in the past but am more barefoot hippy these days

ily0xx · 07/05/2023 18:34

Yes of course you can

Teeheegreen · 07/05/2023 21:29

I've been told I look elegant and classy by different people over the years. Definitely never a conscious thing with me. Apparently I carry myself well.

Hazelnuttella · 07/05/2023 21:35

I think you can improve your posture, which helps a lot. Yoga has made me a lot more aware of this, and it’s surprising how much it works your muscles to stand in a different way to what you’re used to - so it is hard work.

But I think some people do have a natural elegance that can’t be acquired as well.

I've been described as elegant. Can't do sexy though, sadly.

DeeCeeCherry · 07/05/2023 21:54

I think you can. It takes effort but you might enjoy it if it makes you look and feel better. Nice hair, manicure and pedicure. Tailored clothes as opposed to a load of badly made fast fashion. Nice handbags. Flattering shoes. Look after your skin. Pilates yoga and stretching for posture. I don't think I'm naturally elegant really but people have told me I am. I love well made vintage clothing so I have a "look". I think that's something to do with it. Have fun finding what works for you.
