Hubby had hip done self pay a few years ago.

We paid for consultation and xray and then it basically went ahead.
2 years later, pain came on quite suddenly and badly on other hip so we went down the same route again.

Had the consultation this week and are listed as wanting an op, had an xray too.
Xray showed bone on bone and that hubby needed an op
We saw the xray at the consultation.

We thought we were waiting to hear about a date now as that's what happened last time.

Then we get an email yesterday saying he needs an MRI first
We can't talk until Tuesday, so we are worrying and unsure why does he need an MRI?

He didn't have one last time.
Consultant didn't mention MRI at the consultation.

Is this anything to worry about, is this normal and how much do they cost?
Anyone with experience, do you know.
Why did he not have one last time? Thanks.
We are worrying.
Presume they won't proceed with an op.unless we have one?

An MRI scan will show up more than an X Ray can.
I expect privately it will be at least a couple of hundred quid.

Are you sure it's MRI?
I have had a hip replacement recently and X-ray was followed up by CT scan.
I would suspect that the checks needed have changed.
No idea about costs because I used the NHS.

It's an mri scan.
Wanted to use the NHS but wait too long.
