Don't mind Charles

This is probably rather controversial. But I really don't mind King Charles.

I think society advanced more quickly than the monarch could keep up with and as a consequence the Queen made some poor decisions regarding her children. She must bear some responsibility for what happened with Diana. He also made some poor choices but I think he has done incredibly well tk stay motivated driven all these years waiting. I also feel like I know more about him than the queen. His interests in organic farming etc. never really knew anything about the queen.

Not perfect but I think better than an elected head of state that only cares about themselves.

Anyway, that's it really. Al the hate being spewed is a bit too much I think.

He strikes me as a spoiled, unpleasant man.

Erex · 06/05/2023 21:09

Yes, his first "job" in his seventies. Someone to look up to, for sure.

You think rule by birth right is better than an elected head of state?

Paperlate · 06/05/2023 21:10

He seems a bit grumpy and cantankerous to me. I don't think many people have a lot of affection for him.

CaspianPlover · 06/05/2023 21:14

I thoroughly enjoyed today, a religious ceremony crowning the King that is 1000 years old and a super show of pomp and discipline from the armed services. It made me proud to be British.

Orangebadger · 06/05/2023 21:16

I like his passion for the environment and in a very non English way I like his outspokenness on issues. But I guess that will be watered down now he's king.

I use to find the queens outward neutrality to everything quite frustrating.

But I am neither here nor there about the monarchy , certainly not a royalist but not vehemently opposed either.

Jellykat · 06/05/2023 21:22

I like him, i've know a lot of young people helped by The Princes trust in the past, and i love how passionate he is about the environment.

Changeling78 · 06/05/2023 21:22

I agree, I don’t mind him at all, or Camilla. I can’t say I love the monarchy but I wouldn’t want anyone else to be up there.

Flymetothetoon · 06/05/2023 21:23

I like him - he was ahead of his time regarding environmental issues and I think he will be a good, sensible and sensitive King. Long reign King Charles and Queen Camilla

I wonder if the stupidly unpleasant posts are supposed to convince ppl like me to like KC more. It's working. Well done!

JamSandle · 06/05/2023 21:26

I really like him too. I think he will make a great King.

Precipice · 06/05/2023 21:26

I don't care either way about his personality, nor indeed the personalities of any other person in that family or any other family heading a monarchical system. I consider monarchy morally repugnant and unjustifiable. If his personally were the most ideally suited to a head of state, still I would consider that the way he acquired the position makes his having it unacceptable.

I don't think so, just people giving their opinion. If you base your opinion on him from MN posts, you're likely just very easily swayed.

MushMonster · 06/05/2023 21:29

I do have hopes for his green side.
I loved the parade today (top work), the great great great music performance given today and how everything went so smoothly and everyone looked great and looked their best.

ColonelRhubarbBikini · 06/05/2023 21:53

I don’t really give it that much thought, he seems ok. I don’t think his resting expression helps. William is the same, they’ve both got a bit of a smacked arse look when they’re neutral. If they’re talking or smiling it improves no end.

My DDad met Charles a few times and said he was a nice chap but that’s hardly solid gold evidence.

KimberleyClark · 06/05/2023 22:01

I don’t mind hi and I’m not even a monarchist. He seems vulnerable in a way his late mother did not.

loftconversi0n · 06/05/2023 22:20

I think it would be a travesty to remove the monarchy from the UK. The rich history and tradition are important and probably are more intertwined in our society than we realise.

And when I have slow times at work and am trying to fill my days , I sometimes risk sinking jnto depression. I think it must be incredibly difficult to be so restricted in what you can do. When my kids were flying down tbe rapids at centre parcs- I felt sad that royal children will probably never experience this that.

Anyway , I digress. I agree he comes across as more vulnerable and also more in touch with the people. I think he has done more with the prince's trust than the Queen actively did? I think waiting this long has us it's benefits for him.

Here’s SF’s take on exactly this

RuthTopp · 06/05/2023 22:25

It seems odd to me that Prince Phillip never took the title of king but Camilla has of queen.

RuthTopp · 06/05/2023 22:25

It seems odd to me that Prince Phillip never took the title of king but Camilla has of queen.

A King out ranks a Queen, so the Queen's husband can't be King. The wives of other blood line Kings have had the title Queen.

OP I agree about the Queen, she was way behind the times. I also think that the time has ended for them to "never complain, never explain". I would have liked an apology from Charles on making Jimmy Savile untouchable. Likewise the help given to the pedophile Bishop. Kate and William can't keep up the blandness.

fryanddry · 06/05/2023 22:38

I like Charles too, nobody can give a concrete answer why they don’t like him or camilla , they always bring up princess di like she was so perfect
i wish he would grow a beard though ..

Ineedwinenow · 06/05/2023 22:43

I like him and Camilla, I’m pleased he’s our head of state and that he has Camilla by his side through it all.

vipersnest1 · 06/05/2023 22:44

KimberleyClark · 06/05/2023 22:01

I don’t mind hi and I’m not even a monarchist. He seems vulnerable in a way his late mother did not.

My personal take on it was that he looked very humble. The kiss on the cheek from William was very touching, and he looked like he was close to tears at some points of the service.
I hope he will carry that through to his reign - his mother set a wonderful example for him to follow.

YouveGotToGrooveIt · 06/05/2023 22:49

If there were a vote, I'd vote to get rid of the monarchy. I think the tradition of class dictating moral worth is too entwined in our culture and the monarchy represents the very pinnacle of that.

That said, I really don't mind Charles or Camilla and have found today very entertaining. I think he's far LESS spoiled than he could have been considering his position.. See Andrew as an example.

eh? You sink into a depression that the royal family will not go down the rapids at centre parcs?

@fryanddry he is a fucking leech on society whilst having an inherited fortune of 4bn solely paid for by people like you and me whilst kids go hungry. I’m pretty clear on why
