The strangest thing you've ever taken home?

I'm sure plenty of us took traffic cones or the occasional pint glass home once or twice, but what was your strangest?

Mine was a pig.
He needed homing (or he was due to me put to sleep) and I wasn't able to say no so I brought the fella home.
Had him 6 months until a proper home became available for him.
People would come into my house to find the dog just lying on the pig. Didn't tell people prior to this I had a pig, just because I liked to see their faces when he trotted in 😁
He wasn't massive, but "micro" definitely not!

Walking home one winters evening I came across an eight year old lost boy, no one around so I decided to take him home with me, a few hundred yards up the road we came across a fat old dog waddling along, again no one around so I took him home as well. After a piece of cake, and cocoa for the boy, and a tin of cat food for the dog, I found out where the boy lived, ( over five miles away) and took him home. Never did find where the dog came from, a neighbour adopted him.

Thank goodness you found him!

My weirdest thing to take home was a taxi driver called Jerry. He'd agreed to take me home south of the river when all the night buses were cancelled due to snow. By the time we got to my house the weather was dreadful and snow really thick so he came in and slept on the sofa and left in the morning.

My flatmates all said he'd been hoping to score, but he honestly just seemed like a nice older bloke and he said I'd reminded him of his daughter and didn't want to leave me stranded.

A homeless soldier, nearly 15 years ago.

He hasn't left yet.

I need the full story. I'm hoping a romantic one!!

I've taken home homeless men a few times (not as a hobby or a sex thing!) Just because the weather has been abysmal and they've all been really old and frail and sometimes you just can't leave an old fella in the snow.
Now I've got kids I wouldn't, but I did back then. I definitely wouldn't suggest anyone did it though, most were absolutely harmless but some became quite distressed they had to leave 😭

A couple, who were both convicted murderers. I didn't know it when they come home with us after some drinks but found out as conversation progressed but they seemed pleasant, had served their time and all (were probably in their late 50s/early 60s, just didn't seem threatening). I went to bed while OH stayed up talking with them, woke a couple of hours later to shouting, an argument had broken out and I tried to calm things down and the man said to my OH 'how would you like it if I killed her?' indicating me. Bloody terrifying! But I calmed everyone down and got them to leave.

We were friends... finally admitted we did like each other like that, and he moved in with me temporarily that night as he had no where else t go.

Been married for nearly 13 years, 2 kids, and moved around the world together. Now counting the years until he finally retires from the Army.

A tortoise 5 years ago, in the middle of a field in my rural village. Posted found tortoise notes up/asked on face book etc. I even contacted local vets to see if they would message everyone who's tortoise they have treated over last few years and still no one claimed it. Still have it.😀🐢

Aww what's his/ her name? We have a tortoise and when he's out in the garden we tie a massive flag around him so we can find him again. Either that or we re purpose birthday balloons if they're helium so you can see a massive number just bumbling about the garden. We got sick of losing him!

Our dog loves him

EggTheParrot · 01/10/2023 04:52

We also let him hibernate over winter in the fridge as it's easier than him digging a hole fuck knows where in the garden.. so he goes in the beginning drawer ..

Veg not beginning

My Dad (worked at the BBC) once brought home Oliver Reid. I was about 10.

They got quietly drunk at the kitchen table, Oliver slept on the sofa and left in the morning!

He brought home other randoms occasionally but that was the weirdest!

Oh my GOD.

My dad once brought Oliver Reed home too. I threw a cup of ribena over him (out my window) because they were being noisy and smoking on the patio late at night.

Did he just do the rounds of people's dads? He may well of done.

The weirdest thing I've ever brought home was a giant panda. You know Kung Fu Panda? It was a lifesize plastic replica that had clearly been part of a cinema's marketing display.

HerbalBovril · 02/10/2023 04:24

A bloody massive kangaroo bone. My mate sent me home from his farm with it to “keep under the bed for protection”.

Dustyblue · 02/10/2023 04:38

Fabulous thread 😂

An 8ft inflatable Michellan Man. It was a windy night and he'd blown off his moorings and landed in the middle of my street. Took 4 drunk people to get him home. Gave me a helluva fright the next morning.

A "ghost" . Whilst carrying out a home assessment for an elderly person preparing to return home after a lengthy hospital stay. The house was old and filled with a lifetime of memories ( creepy and dark),was with my manager and a couple of things happened whilst there I.e tap suddenly coming on in bathroom, something jumping off the bed(thought it was a mouse, but no) a drawer in chest of drwers being half openedwith contents spilled ( which wasnt like that on arrival). Upon leaving I was convinced I'd mistakingly taken something searching my over large uniform pockets( something I would never do!) of course nothing in them. A couple of days later it began! he was a nightmare! three people in my household saw him! terrifying. I had to go back there but my manager refused to go with me instead arranging a physio to accompany me,i was not looking forward to it but after going back "he" (the ghost) didn't reappear thank fuck.
Sorry for long winded post.

Not me but my 2 older brothers. They'd been out drinking one evening in their late teens and came home with a WW2 gas mask.

Some of the teachers from my primary school on the last day of term. My mum and her friends had had a boozy lunch and were in no fit state to collect us from school. One of the teachers was also a friend of mum's so she and a couple of colleagues walked us (my siblings and mum's other friends kids) home and stayed for a few drinks. This was about 50 years ago.
