Harry forced to watch his dads affair partner in the place his mum should have been

I feel so sorry for him. It would eat me up if I had to watch Camilla smiling and waving in the spotlight. She tormented his mother and wife. She (and his dad of course) spoiled his childhood.

Because no one on Mumsnet is on their second marriage.................

@HamBone didn't the mother run away to Argentina ?

I think it was Fergie's mum who lived in Argentina

I enjoyed some of the dry humour on this thread. To the person upthread calling Camilla on old bag and wittering about Karma, know this: Karma may or may not exist but in your case it definitely will. You will either become an old bag yourself or face the alternative.

I wonder if people would still vote the same way if the questions was “ I was forced to watch my dad’s affair partner in the place my mum should have been”

Am I being unreasonable?

Other than the usual "he's a bastard, cos he is a male" replies.

Most would respond more information needed, which would lead to a huge drip feed, probably resulting in the same responses.

They divorced because there was a third person in the relationship from day one , an older tougher bully girl who continued hanging around like a bad smell. Have you read Diana's testimony?

Oh give up!!! They were one of the most unsuited couples ever, it wouldn't have lasted, Camilla or no Camilla. Maybe time to stop all this speculation and concentrate on your own life, rather than a family you don't actually know!

My own dad is married - having cheated on my mum - to a woman far better suited to him.

It really isn't a great trauma to see her with him. It's a joy to see him happy.

@OakGreen I was 'forced' to watch my mother's affair partner take my father's place in everything, but as I grew up I realised that my parents never should have married and that, whether I had liked it or not, my mother's second husband made her happier, and that my father had made her miserable (and she him).

(The fact that all three of them were/assumedly still are pretty terrible people is neither here nor there.)

If Harry were a mature adult, capable of reflection and consideration (and possessing an appreciation of hindsight), he'd understand the same of his own parents and his stepmother

That's a lovely attitude and it is a shame if people can't recognise that anyone can make a mistake but it doesn't have to mean you have to live unhappily forever. I hope your mum is also OK.

Charles should have married Camilla in the first place back in the 1970's when he had the opportunity, but having made the decision to marry Diana he should have remained faithful to her and NOT continued his relationship with Camilla. It's my belief that Charles' adulterous relationship with Camilla contributed to the breakup of their marriage so I do honestly think that if charles had remained faithful to Diana, she wouldn't have ended up being in the car with Dodi Fayed, and would have been crowned Queen today instead of Camilla.

No doubt Harry has similar feelings about Camilla being in what should by rights have been his mother's place today.

As I remember Charles went off on service in the navy and when he got back Camilla was either married or engaged so I don't think he did have the opportunity. He was reported to be devastated but not much he could do about it even as the heir to the throne he couldn't force a woman to marry him and Camilla chose her longtime boyfriend.

If it transpired that the OP’s parents divorced 30 years earlier and the new couple had been married almost 20 years then yes I’d say YABU

I think you are right I had a Google and Diana's mum died and is buried on a Scottish island.

Diana was never going to be Queen. She and Charles had nothing in common. I couldn't imagine he knew how to deal with the dramatics, the mental health issues, the bulimia, the throwing herself down the stairs. They've have been long divorced now, Camilla or not.

At least Charles' infidelity was with one woman, and the woman he'd been in love with all along. Diana had a series of lovers, and for all the comments about there being 3 in her marriage, she still had flings with married men herself. Bit pot kettle...
