to be struggling with this

I've had problematic symptoms recently- I have already seen the doctor about it who did a blood test (which was fine) so he reassured me that nothing is wrong and said its likely just anxiety causing it. I'm sure he's correct but it's disrupting my life and I thought I would ask here in case any posters had any advice for how I can make it stop.

I've been getting strange sensations in my limbs on one side of my body.

Initially I thought I had injured my leg as I was getting tingling in my foot and calf (pins and needles) and numbness in my lower leg (as if I had been sitting on it). It comes and comes and usually lasts for anywhere from 5 minutes to an hour. Its only ever in one leg. I've had on and off knee pain on the same side too but there's been no swelling or bruising.

I assumed I had injured my leg, however the same problem has started in my arm now too (on the same side). This is when I went to the doctor around 1 month ago.

It hasn't just started today but just as an example, today when I was in the car (as a passenger) my arm suddenly felt really off, it was tingly but also numb. It felt like I had hit my funny bone but it happened completely out of the blue but it was really uncomfortable. It went away after half an hour however I can feel it starting again now- its like a numb ache around my elbow and going up my upper arm. It feels achey but also numb and tingling.

My doctor didnt have any advice other than its anxiety causing it, but I dont feel anxious so I dont know how to control it IYSIM. I've seen a physio too who said he couldn't see any injuries or obvious problems.

Really hope someone has some advice on how I could improve this x

Get a print out of your blood tests. B12 if low -or even if it’s low end of the normal range- can cause these sort of symptoms. It would be best to see what your levels actually are for all your blood tests.

Probably nothing really serious, but I would ask the doctor whether you could be having mini-strokes/ TIAs: they can sometimes involve tingling and 'pins and needles', and dealing with them could prevent a real stroke. Have you had your blood pressure tested?

I would want a referral to neurology tbh, I seriously doubt that level of symptoms is just anxiety.

Degenerative disc disease? That can cause those symptoms

I just skimmed your post and thought “anxiety”. Then I saw your doctor has said the same thing. It’s amazing what symptoms worrying can cause. When I was waiting for a breast cancer referral I was so scared and stressed, and I was having pins and needles and twitching in my legs. It went away completely after I was told my breasts are fine.

I checked my b12 at the time of my blood test (I got a printed copy- its somewhere in my room so I'll try and find it!) because when I googled the symptoms b12 was one of the first things that came up, however it was well above what it should be and wasn't anywhere near the low end at all, tbh all the results were like that, nothing was even close to abnormal x

@makeitorbreakit did you ever get to the bottom of this?

Cheeseoncake · 09/10/2023 22:47

Could be FND

sshhh123 · 09/10/2023 23:02

This is how my health issues started - numbness/pins and needles up one arm. Turns out I have a neurological condition and had to have brain surgery ☹️ and now have fibro and have to take more than 15 tablets a day. Hopefully I haven't scared the shit out of you but definitely worth forcing your gp into ordering tests. Good luck x
