I’m going back to work part time in July, three days a week (taking holiday for two days until it runs out). Which three days would you work?! I have to decide by Tuesday and I’ve been back and forth over it … the only thing im relatively sure about is doing consecutive days in work…

Tues, Wed and Thurs

wendywoopywoo222 · 05/05/2023 20:48

I do Monday to Wednesday and love the long weekends. Get all the house jobs done Thursday and then three days for fun or weekends away.

Slaistery · 05/05/2023 20:48

Middle three days of the week - Tuesday to Thursday. No shenanigans over bank holidays, no Fridays, and contiguous three days when most other people are also working.

tuvamoodyson · 05/05/2023 20:48

Tues/Wed/Thurs

CrapBucket · 05/05/2023 20:48

Wednesday Thursday and Friday.

WaxingGibbon · 05/05/2023 20:49

Agreed. Tues, Weds and Thurs

bloodywhitecat · 05/05/2023 20:49

I'd go for Tuesday - Thursday or possibly Monday - Wednesday.

towriteyoumustlive · 05/05/2023 20:49

Mondays is the key one due to lots of bank holidays.

So if you work Mondays then you have to take a day of leave for every Monday Bank Holiday.

I'd choose Wed/Thu/Fri

CrapBucket · 05/05/2023 20:49

Although, it depends on your industry. Friday is a major deadline day in my world and would be a bad day to miss out on.

Nutsabouttopic · 05/05/2023 20:49

When I went back to work I did Tuesday Wednesday and Thursday. It suited our family better. I had a long weekend every week.

MrsTerryPratchett · 05/05/2023 20:51

Monday and Friday are the busiest for me so it would be a nightmare. I'd do Monday to Friday so you start the week with the team. However, BHs are a PITA.

Monday to Wednesday FFS.

Depends on your job!

katemulberrybush · 05/05/2023 20:55

Is your childcare totally flexible where you can pick your days?

Findyourneutralspace · 05/05/2023 20:55

I always liked Mon Tue Weds. It worked out better for bank holidays but it depends on your company policy.

Motheranddaughtertotwo · 05/05/2023 20:58

Monday to Wednesday, just as you get knackered you get days off.

Peachmangolemon · 05/05/2023 20:58

Just make sure you avoid Mondays so you don't have to use annual leave on bank hols

OneFlipflopleft · 05/05/2023 20:59

I work 3 days, used to be consecutive days. Which was good, as is said always a long weekend. Since last year the days changed and it's now tuesday, thursday and friday. Which I can now say is my preference, almost always 'free tomorrow' and never work for more than 2 days consecutively, which works better for my work/personal life balance.
But for sure I would always work fridays, due to deadlines and work pile over the weekend through monday. Plus everybody (co-workers and clients) is happier on fridays; almost weekend.

Spring45Mermaid · 05/05/2023 21:01

Depends on your job and work? I avoid Mondays due to the bank holidays and most big meetings are Tues/Wed or thurs

Applequash · 05/05/2023 21:01

Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday

Nurseries charge for bank holidays even though they close so I’d never work a Monday again!

Blueey · 05/05/2023 21:02

I've just switched from Monday - Wednesday to Tuesday - Thursday and it is SO much better, even though I was always convinced getting work out of the way earlier in the week was better, I've found it's not.

Now, I still get a 4 day weekend. But Monday I can get to grips with the house having become a bit messier over the weekend, eg if we spend Sunday at the beach, we'd usually be ending the day fussing with sandy clothes and dirty lunchboxes etc trying to get everything organised for the week. But I have Monday now so don't have to be so organised. It's opened up my weekends with the kids as I feel less pressure on Sundays to get stuff sorted. I can grab a shop on Monday, meal plan, whatever, and I get a day by myself to decompress because the weekends can be so full on due to the age of my kids. I also find everyone else has usually come back Monday so I have replies to emails, stuff moving in etc and I get in the swing of it quicker. And the week somehow goes more quickly.

Can you tell I'm a massive covert 😂😂 what decided it for me was a colleague who does the same saying she wished she did it when her kids were younger because it was better so I went for it.

Finally for annual leave it's great as most of my bank holiday entitlement can be taken as normal annual leave as I'm already off for most of them. Only really Christmas/new year that can fall on a working day.

Blueey · 05/05/2023 21:03

Convert, not covert obviously

SunshineLollipopsAndRainbows · 05/05/2023 21:03

Another vote for Tues/Wed/ Thurs
