To think I should be able to win Mario Kart at least once

Given that I’m a grown up and quite a good driver in real life. But DS is always 1st, and I’m always 9th or 11th or something. It’s so hard to steer, and that annoying sideways wheel thing, ugh!

any tips? What car and wheels should I choose? Techniques? Which of the stupid things you collect should I throw at who when? Does pressing the buttons make any difference at all? (I did once do something all round and the result was the same)

so YABU - what do you expect? It’s nothing like real life and frankly with your hand eye coordination you have no chance, plus your DS plays way more than you - winning is a pipe dream

or YANBU- you can do this, with a subtle change of approach and a few sly tactics you will one day be the winner

I always came top on MK Wii but struggled with the Switch at first. Practicing on ghost trials helped me get back on track. If you can beat the ghosts, you can beat almost anyone. My winning combo is Donkey Kong (still miss Funky Kong) on the Comet.

@Liquorish

My DH loved ‘Funks’

I miss the bikes. The Magikruiser and Toadette was such a lovely little combo.

@Merryoldgoat fingers crossed they bring back some fun on the next wave!

I would like to add that I refused to buy son a switch because our Wii (and our WiiU) is still perfectly fine and yes I understand the Wii is older than you and it's embarrassing to still have a Wii and nearly impossible to find new Wiimotes but if you want a Switch get a job.

He was 14 when I told him that and not willing to get a job.

Which, darn, now I don't get to play with a Switch either. I bought the Wii for them one Christmas but it was really because I wanted it. 😉

Also, I love Super Mario Galaxy 2 and I'm awesome at Loopdeloop Galaxy.

I've just bought myself a switch purely because I want to play Pikmin 4 when it comes out (favourite game, beyond excited!) but don't actually have MK on it yet. We just have the wii u and the switch both connected to the TV.
Nintendo really do the best games. Me and now-DH used to spend hours Mario Karting on the GameCube, that's when I knew he was the one. 😀

Great tips on here. We love MarioKarts too.

You Tube really helped me to up my game. I learnt how to drift (essential) and the shortcuts are a revelation.

Like others have said ‘hold’ some items behind you for protection. So for example if I’m 1st I will hold a green turtle on me to protect me from red turtles.

Somersalt off every jump/ramp. (we use the steering wheels so it’s just a button but different techniques for other ways)

When you get better you can drop bananas in annoying places for others for example.

practice on your own and a lower speed and build up.
