Which was their damage limitation number so when they lost 800 they could say 'we've not done as badly as we feared'.

AIBU to be cracking open the champagne while they try to figure out how the hell they can put a positive spin on this?

We've had one a while and I don't know!

Paul2023 · 05/05/2023 22:41

The Tories are isolating all their core voters. I don’t know what they stand for anymore.

Even the pensioners here are upset because they want to open up an immigration centre.

Lots of anger about it. Let’s be honest, 13 years of the Tories in lose and nothing has improved.

They are losing voters left right and centre ( pardon the pun)

Piggywaspushed · 05/05/2023 22:42

Huge conflict in Bedgord over a rail link which splits Borough on geographical lines so makes vote very localised. Current LD mayor fairly prominent. I voted for him, tactically.

Piggywaspushed · 05/05/2023 22:44

It's a classic flip flop constituency.

Piggywaspushed · 05/05/2023 22:46

Fuck's sake. Tory Mayor for Bedford.

My options were Tory or Independent or some bloke who couldn't be arsed to say what he was and didn't bother to give any indication of what he intended to do

Independent got my vote through default

Paul2023 · 05/05/2023 22:47

Local elections are one thing but who will people vote for in the General Election?

MotherofPearl · 05/05/2023 22:48

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 05/05/2023 22:36

I bet you a £1 They'll still get back in again at the General Election though.

Nooooooo! I can't bear it.

I know what you mean though. The Tories truly are political cockroaches. What will it take FFS?!

And Kier Starmer can answer a simple question. Such as what a woman is. Not hard is it ?

Swansandcustard · 05/05/2023 22:50

@Piggywaspushed ffs indeed. Obviously because Bedford so stuffed full of the super rich protecting their investments. Or maybe lots of deranged little englanders worried about marauding Albanian transgender spider monkeys running riot.

Piggywaspushed · 05/05/2023 22:51

It's to do with the railway.

lavenderlou · 05/05/2023 22:53

A number of previously Tory councillors changed to independent as they knew they wouldn't get in again if they campaigned as a Tory.

Same in my ward. I had hoped they stood as independents because they dislike the direction the Conservative party has taken but I suspect it was more to do with knowing the Conservatives are unpopular and losing their council seats.

sugarapplelane · 05/05/2023 22:53

we have a council where no be party has overall control. However the Conservatives lost a few more seats and Lib Dems won a few more. So we’re heading in the right direction.

Noe all we have to do is that vote that pompous twat John Redwood out come the GE. That man makes my blood boil

Swansandcustard · 05/05/2023 22:54

I think there’s a few pissed off at Hodgson for daring to allow the hotel at Sharnbrook to become a hostel for asylum seekers too. North Beds likes its villages leafy and green, heaven forbid leafy and brown.

Piggywaspushed · 05/05/2023 22:56

Oh,I am other end. Didn't know that.

Piggywaspushed · 05/05/2023 22:58

They can all watch the farmer mayor selling off all the precious fields to Bovis Homes now...

givemecoffeenow · 05/05/2023 22:58

I’m actually, genuinely, pleasantly surprised at the results. It’s like people are finally waking up and seeing the tories for what they are.

I guess the British public aren’t as brainwashed by the media bias as I thought.

It’s a shame the general election isn’t anytime soon though…

MandyMotherOfBrian · 05/05/2023 22:58

YANBU. And it’s glorious. And to the ex leader of my local council - Ben Fitter Harding - yes dear, there are indeed issues at a national level, but you lost this council election all by yourself because of your own failings. Finally. Couldn’t be happier.

Beezknees · 05/05/2023 23:06

Independent councillor has won in my ward, and Labour in the next ward over. Our MP is Tory and up until the pandemic we were a Tory stronghold.

cakeorwine · 05/05/2023 23:08

So I wonder if the Tories and the Tory media will keep on doing what they are doing - regardless of the results so far?

Dorisbonson · 05/05/2023 23:08

UK is on its arse. Tories have failed. Labour likely to be even worse. If I lived in the UK I would pay a lot more than a £100k a year in tax. I won't move back if Labour win a couple of years..I'm sure I won't be the only one staying away from the UK and plenty more moving away. Watch out for 50% tax rates at 50k a year instead of 45% at 125k.

GodSaveTheClean · 05/05/2023 23:10

Our Tory MP doesn’t even live in our area; he lives 250 miles north of here.
Good riddance!

Piggywaspushed · 05/05/2023 23:11

OK, well you stay right where you are. Fine with me.
