Posting here for traffic. Teenager posted videos of himself on YouTube a few years ago when he was only 8. Nothing awful, just him and his brother messing about playing Minecraft. (I didn’t know they had done it tbh) Daft stuff. However, he’s forgotten his log on and password and can’t get into YT to delete. He’s embarrassed by them and he’s being bullied because of it. Racked our brains thinking of password but he doesn’t even know the e mail he used and doesn’t have the device now. Google mail recovery option sending us in circles.

YT being spectacularly unhelpful. Going round in circles. Any ideas what we can do?

He probably would have needed an email to set it up which might have used as his login

In which case he can then press the forgotten password button and they'll email him a link to create a new one

HappiDaze · 04/05/2023 02:08

Sorry I see you've tried that

Deathmetal · 04/05/2023 02:13

I think you’re focusing on the wrong thing

deleting the videos won’t stop the bullying. They will find something else to pick on as they don’t like your son regardless.

You need to report the bullying via official channels and get the school to deal with it

also remember that deleting the videos won’t remove them from the internet. Someone can easily make copies or take screenshots. Others can upload the footage elsewhere

it’s better for you to focus on improving his self esteem as this will likely follow him around. He needs to own it.

The bullies will hopefully get bored of bullying him about something trivial he did when he was 8

It's the summer holidays soon so it'll all be forgotten

Also it’s a bit crazy that you didn’t know your 8 year old was filming videos of himself, creating secret emails and posting the videos online under his name. I’m sure YouTube must have rules about parental supervision as he would have been under the age limit to access it?

Rotormotor · 04/05/2023 05:56

Thanks. Yes it’s crazy I didn’t know. I don’t feel great about that naturally.

we’ve had the bullying talk.

thanks for the responses and ideas.

Could you search your own email history for your kid's name and see if you have any emails from their account when they were around that age? When I set up an email for mine we sent several "testing" emails between ourselves to check it was all working.

Rotormotor · 04/05/2023 07:01

Yes will keep trying that.
