AIBU To not really be bothered about the Kings coronation?

I know it’s a historical moment but I just don’t really feel excited about it… Like at all.

I know people who are travelling to London for the day or having parties and I just don’t have the same enthusiasm as them. Is that bad?

Anyone else feel the same as me?

Looks like there’s lots of people that aren’t too bothered about the coronation then… I wonder if the royal family has had its day judging by my own feelings of apathy toward them and others too in this thread. I can imagine people were much more excited for the Queens coronation but then that was a different era.

At least it’s a bank holiday weekend for everyone to enjoy.

Wrong.

I'm hugely excited. It's the first in my lifetime. There are loads of things in life that are shit but one day won't change that. I feel proud to be British and to celebrate that fact.

Same here. And I don't give a flying fuck what people think. I do know for a fact that millions of people are excited about it and the Royal Family is not going anywhere ever. People have been trying to get rid of the Royal Family for centuries. It's never happened and it never will.

They are too popular (in the UK AND all over the world.) Keep dreaming haters! And keep telling yourself the Royal Family are finished and no-one likes them. Doesn't make any difference. It's still not true.

givemecoffeenow · 06/05/2023 01:55

That’s the thing though, I don’t hate them. I don’t particularly feel anything towards them. I used to have respect for the Queen, but now she’s gone I just don’t feel anything when I think of the royal family. Judging by the results of the voting on this thread I’m clearly not alone in feeling that way.

I don’t have anything against those who feel differently. We are allowed different opinions after all.

There is very little doubt that the popularity of the royal family has lessened over a relatively short period of time. I moved to the town I live in just before the golden jubilee. The whole town was covered in bunting. Several public events on to celebrate, and the celebrations were shown in the town hall.

Diamond jubilee, some events on, a little bunting but much less. The jubilee last year hardly anything was done.

The coronation? One house has decorated. No public events etc.

You might be right that millions are excited about the coronation but I think it's also equally fair to say millions couldn't care less. And that's the number that's growing.

I do think, in my lifetime, we will see a much slimmer royal family, if the continue to exist.

lavenderlou · 06/05/2023 10:00

I'm watching. I love all the history and tradition (and I even have a pretty high IQ...).

LakieLady · 06/05/2023 10:06

Not bothered about it at all, but it's too wet to get out and do anything in the garden, and I'm rather enjoying the music.

I wish Huw Bloody Edwards would stfu though.

Applesinmyhouse · 06/05/2023 10:08

I like watching the horses. I enjoy a bit of pomp and ceremony. I know some people that have schlapped there to see it in person, I couldn’t be bothered by that personally.

Well, this thread has certainly bought the cunts out.

''I'm so HAPPY about the Cornation <gnashes teeth> fuck off with your negativity <gnashes teeth>'' 😂

You're not being unreasonable OP.
Let them all eat their cake and wave their flags at the rich man though - it makes them #so.happy

I honestly could not be less arsed. If it was happening in my garden I'd close the curtains.

If it was happening in my living room i wouldn't come down stairs!

And I - and millions of Royalists - could not be less arsed about your opinions. I am sure if people are celebrating the Coronation outside your house, they will raise a glass and cheer when you close your curtains... Coz it means they don't have to look at your miserable curmudgeonly scowling face. Ditto to the other haters on this thread.

LONG LIVE THE KING. 😜 I am raising a glass to MY KING and raising a middle finger to you lot of haters on here. Ta-ra a bit! Grin

Floofydawg · 06/05/2023 10:59

@DannyZukosSmile you're kinda not getting the point of this thread are you. You didn't have to click on it.

CovertImage · 06/05/2023 11:12

And if multiple threads on a subject was bad form, then MN wouldn't exist. But it does drag the arsehole comments out, those who are compelled to point out how tedious it all is, when - of course - they could simply ignore the thread.

The issue for me is that they're blocking up AIBU and active. I wish they'd either post in or get moved to the Royals thread so they could be ignored all together

Laiste · 06/05/2023 11:15

Isn't it funny how most of the effing and jeffing and actual aggression comes from the royalists on threads today.

Laiste · 06/05/2023 11:17

Lovely how the coronation has bought everyone together .....

Floofydawg · 06/05/2023 12:38

I'm on holiday. There's some nob playing it on an iPad round the pool. With the sound on.

DannyZukosSmile · 04/05/2023 00:22

What amazes me is how a poster starts a banal thread like this, and thinks they're SO original for starting it, and so out-there and radical because they aren't arsed about the Coronation. NEWSFLASH... NO. ONE CARES!

Why are you posting on the thread then? 🙄

Say thank you. Whatever you think of the monarchy, the music has been amazing. That gospel choir was incredible.

Hasn’t it just 🤣

I had no idea it was such a touchy subject when I started the thread!
