AIBU To not really be bothered about the Kings coronation?

givemecoffeenow · 04/05/2023 00:13

I know it’s a historical moment but I just don’t really feel excited about it… Like at all.

I know people who are travelling to London for the day or having parties and I just don’t have the same enthusiasm as them. Is that bad?

Anyone else feel the same as me?

OP posts:
Gotafaceon · 04/05/2023 05:53

I feel the same. Can't care less. Just annoyed at the expense when so many are struggling.

I've not seen the other thread either (probably as I don't care enough to click on them)

Don't think the level of nastiness to the OP is warranted tbh.

KitKatLove · 04/05/2023 06:21

I’m not bothered, probably won’t see any of it on tv. Never watched Philip or the Queen’s funerals either.

whodawhodaeho · 04/05/2023 06:32

It’s for tourists. I couldn’t care less

ThisNameIsNotAvailable · 04/05/2023 06:41

We will probably watch the documentary about Andrew whilst having a cream tea.

It’s outdated and obscene in this day and age to spend so much money on all the frippery.

Ignore the thread police, if people want to start a new thread on it every five minutes that’s their choice and the self appointed guardians of mumsnet can just scroll on by.

CoozudBoyuPuak · 04/05/2023 07:03

Are other people who aren't bothered about the coronation going onto all the pro-royal threads and shitting over them and trying to make the people who like those threads feel ashamed for the fact that there's more than one of thread on here about it?

It's not unusual MN behaviour sadly. There seems to be a subset of MNers who can't cope with threads that aren't directed at them but I guess I only see half the evidence of that as I just don't click on threads that aren't about my interests.

DarrellRiversCriminalBehaviourOrder · 04/05/2023 07:08

Yes, of course. Hence the common question in the Royal Family section about why they're there.

You've already made it clear that you aren't familiar with the different ways of viewing the site so you don't need to keep demonstrating it. But then again, you don't mind repetition.

Ski4130 · 04/05/2023 07:11

I honestly couldn’t care less, probably won’t intentionally watch any of it and am massively uninterested other than getting a day off work, which I will enjoy.

MathsNervous · 04/05/2023 07:13

I agree OP. Was listening to Classic FM yesterday and got fed up with all the clips about the coronation. I just wanted to listen to music!

MathsNervous · 04/05/2023 07:15

What angers me is all this expense on one family when so many are struggling.

Errolwasahero · 04/05/2023 07:25

@lemmein this exactly.

@givemecoffeenow thank you, yes I love it too! A chance to switch off from the world. There may be a little wine involved. And whiskey 🥃. I’ll have a little drink to you 👍

Ladysquamy · 04/05/2023 07:36

That man will be sitting on his 1.8 billion, laughing his arse off at all the little cap-doffers on bended knee. I guess if people are stupid enough to fall for a scam...

Babymamamama · 04/05/2023 07:41

Wow so much unnecessary nastiness at the beginning of this thread! OP I totally get where you’re coming from. I’m the same with zero excitement. I would feel weird going to a street party even. I’m just waiting for Glastonbury to be on the telly that’s WAY more exciting for me.

CuriouslyDifferent · 04/05/2023 07:46

Hi OP. This is the first one I’ve seen too.

yeah - I’m not bothered either. Might watch a few mins - I quite like a procession but I won’t watch ceremony.

Im a royalist, but I am very much of the ilk that Camilla isn’t a legitimate queen and his actions undermine his credibility and I hope the monarchy survives long enough to install William and Kate before too long.

VisionsOfSplendour · 04/05/2023 07:51

givemecoffeenow · 04/05/2023 00:19

I guess I’m not the only one feeling the same way then

Did you seriously think you might be? 😂

What kind of life do you lead that you could evn begin to think that ?

LaMarschallin · 04/05/2023 08:08

Maybe it's a bit unreasonable not to have picked up on any other feelings about the coronation from anywhere other than your immediate circle.
Tbf, I don't know anyone who's travelling to see it or particularly enthusiastic. I'll watch it and I'll cook a special dinner that evening (afternoon tea isn't the best for me as I have diabetes), but I like cooking, so any excuse! Maybe that's something you'd count as enthusiasm?

But I'm in no doubt, due to reading magazines, newspapers, watching television and from things I see on the internet that the majority of the population seem pretty apathetic and some are positively anti.

RiverSwimmingBliss · 04/05/2023 08:12

@CuriouslyDifferent put of interest what is a “legitimate” queen? What a shame we can’t elect our head of state - then we could have voted for W&K instead of just having to tolerate the awful Charles 🤷‍♀️.

AxolotlOnions · 04/05/2023 08:21

Unless you're the Archbishop of Canterbury I don't think you really need to bother. Even then, I'd be a bit pissed off that the over-entitled, lazy, non-tax paying leech couldn't work out how to put his own bloody hat on!

What kind of life do you lead that you don’t understand that sometimes people have different views from their immediate social circle so seek connection more widely and that phrases like an I the only one are an invitation for like minded people to join a conversation?

tigger1001 · 04/05/2023 08:32

Couldn't care less about it and will not be watching it either. Not much arranged locally for it - certainly much less than for jubilee celebrations, and even that has lessened as time has gone on.

Am working on Monday too so not even enjoying the long weekend 😂

givemecoffeenow · 04/05/2023 17:19

Looks like there’s lots of people that aren’t too bothered about the coronation then… I wonder if the royal family has had its day judging by my own feelings of apathy toward them and others too in this thread. I can imagine people were much more excited for the Queens coronation but then that was a different era.

At least it’s a bank holiday weekend for everyone to enjoy.

Yeah, shrug. Not in bed with the frothing repubs either.

AzureBlue99 · 05/05/2023 06:28

I thought the Coronation was on Monday, hence the day off. Just found out it's tomorrow. I thought it was a typo in a newspaper, but no, it's on Saturday! That's how little I am bothered about the big day. Normally I am right across royal events.

I actually thought the same 😁

Ah well, at least the fuss of it all will be over by the bank holiday.

If you don’t care then why bother posting a comment on the thread.

I just don’t understand the level of aggression and rudeness people have of this forum 🤨

Good. You don't give a damn about it, we don't care if you give a damn or not.
Some do give a damn about and some do not
It is happening. You can sod off abroad for the w/e or stay at home and avoid it. Tell your friends and family how you feel if you must. I doubt Chas gives a flying fuck

Paloma66 · 05/05/2023 20:39

I'm hugely excited. It's the first in my lifetime. There are loads of things in life that are shit but one day won't change that. I feel proud to be British and to celebrate that fact.
