AIBU To not really be bothered about the Kings coronation?

I know it’s a historical moment but I just don’t really feel excited about it… Like at all.

I know people who are travelling to London for the day or having parties and I just don’t have the same enthusiasm as them. Is that bad?

Anyone else feel the same as me?

Wow. I haven’t seen the other threads either , op. 💪

I’m going camping. Hopefully it will be blissfully quiet!

Glad it’s not just me then 🤣

… That does sound bliss, I love camping, I bet you’re glad to get away from all the fuss of it all , hope you have a fab holiday. 🙂

FFS 🙄 As a pp said, you're obviously bothered enough to start a thread on it. Bother about it, or don't bother. IDGAF to be honest. I am interested and don't give a flying shiny shite if others aren't!

This is such an ironic post 😂
The passive aggressive emoji and "IDGAF" whilst berating someone for posting about something they claim not to give a fuck about because it means they really do😂

Quite.

And if multiple threads on a subject was bad form, then MN wouldn't exist. But it does drag the arsehole comments out, those who are compelled to point out how tedious it all is, when - of course - they could simply ignore the thread.

I agree OP, btw.

This is so true.

It’s so bizarre to me that someone who clearly isn’t enjoying the topic of the thread would bother to make a comment complaining about it. Like if you don’t like it just ignore the thread and find another one on a different topic that interests you, right? 🙃

I have always been interested in the royals, both historical and current, but my interest has died with the Queen. I am not interested anymore so whilst grateful for a day off, I won't be watching or doing anything coronation related.

Yes I know what you mean. I was more interested in the Queen than any of the other royals. I kind of felt like when she died the monarchy died with her.

Appalonia · 04/05/2023 02:50

Yes I have v little interest in it myself, may watch a bit out of curiosity, if I remember! And sorry pp were mean to you, that's pretty standard for AIBU...😃😫💔

AzureBlue99 · 04/05/2023 02:57

Yes, I think she had a sort of mystique and dignity about her in a way all the others don't. And with most of the main players it's now a case of familiarity breeds not contempt, but indifference? I have never been a Charles fan, too peevish for my liking, but all the Andrew and Harry & Meghan nonsense just makes them seem like any "normal" dysfunctional family so there isn't much left to admire. These sort of occasions bring out the flag waving and the overnight campers, but little by little, respect and support for the monarchy is declining. I used to live a 10 minute walk from The Mall and used to get dragged to these type of royal events by parents. So to slowly go from that to indifference is quite the journey!

I loved the Platinum Jubilee stuff on tv but got the sense then we were saying goodbye to the Queen. I am not even going to watch the edited highlights of the Coronation. I hope it all goes off well, it should do bearing in mind the cost, but glad when this is the last big royal event for a while. But I will enjoy the time off work.

suburbophobe · 04/05/2023 03:21

Oh another thread on the SAME subject.Howtedious.

It's not for you to police @LadyWiddiothethird.

People are allowed to have their say and open a thread. You can just click away.
Luckily we still live in that kind of country... I'd rather live here than in Putin's Hell.

It's a historic occasion maybe the last

I'll have the telly on. History in the making.

  1. I have already apologised as I didn’t see the other threads

  2. the Coronation is a current event that’s about to happen so people are bound to be talking about it

  3. If you don’t like a thread, then just leave instead of complaining and being genuinely rude and unpleasant to the OP. It’s not compulsory to post a comment on threads you don’t like. Just scroll on by … Like I don’t get what your problem is 🤦‍♀️

My problem is the same thread being posted a zillion times along with the question "does anyone else think so?"

I mean, yes, I could ignore the thing that's somewhat irritating to me but so could you, so if you can grasp your own reasoning...

JMSA · 04/05/2023 04:13

I couldn't care any less. I only care about getting the day off work, whoop.

Hairday · 04/05/2023 04:16

I love a novel excuse for a party! I want to impose quiche on everyone!

But Charles is such a dweeb, I can't do it. He shouldn't be our head of state. Where's the revolution already? I hope its not one of those situations where I have to organise it because nobody else steps up.

DarrellRiversCriminalBehaviourOrder · 04/05/2023 04:24

Where's the revolution already?

We had one. We didn't like it!

MintJulia · 04/05/2023 04:24

I'm not excited about it, but glad for the extra day off.

Someone near me has decked their entire house, trees, hedges, fence in flags and bunting, which made me smile

Yeah one of my work colleagues has done the same, I don’t actually think she’s that passionate about the royal family, just an excuse for a party really 😁

And I don’t know about a revolution, maybe something a bit more civilised like everyone having a vote, on deciding if they want to keep the royal family or not might be a good idea? 🤷🏼‍♀️

I find the whole thing embarrassing. The country is going to shit yet the serfs will line the streets to wave their silly little flags at a privileged man prancing about in a gold carriage 🙈

It's 2023....2023!

BeggyMitchell · 04/05/2023 04:53

YANBU OP.

I guess I’m not the only one feeling the same way then

You really thought in a population of 67.33 million you were the only one? I'm sure in your circle of friends/work colleagues you can find others.

You thought in a population of 67 million you are special enough to be the only person that might feel a particular way. 🙄

Toastie7 · 04/05/2023 05:14

I was wondering if it might be quiet at the coast while everyone else is watching the coronation, shame about the weather forecast though

CoozudBoyuPuak · 04/05/2023 05:33

Yanbu OP, and YANBU to start a thread about it if you wish.
Just ignore the weird agressive comments from royalists who are (a) angry about having more than one anti-royalist thread visible in active conversations at a time, and (b) aren't quite bright enough to realise that given how MN presents threads, it's not at all unlikely that there might have been no similar threads visible in Active Conversations at the moment you created the thread, but the act of creating the thread boosted some of the other similar ones. It's very easy for royalists to choose not to click on these threads and it's nice to be able to connect with others who feel similarly. It's nothing to be ashamed of and there's no harm being done having more than one related thread.

Comfortingpigeon · 04/05/2023 05:40

Yanbu OP, and im glad you posted because i think i understand my own apathy towards it better now. I'm not anti royal, but like others im feeling like my interest died with the queen...couldnt put my finger on why before!

Thought i'd love it but planning on hiding from our village's street party

Some people aren't bright enough to realise there might be no similar threads in Active, and some people aren't bright enough to realise that Active is only a small part of the site, not used by everyone, and that a quick glance at recent threads shows that OP is clearly not alone in her passionate indifference to the coronation. Takes all sorts.
