How long would this food keep you going for?

Ate 3 boiled eggs for breakfast around 8am. A bowl with maybe 150g plain yogurt and a generous handful of blueberries.

Suddenly starving now and ate two handfuls of cashews and have wolfed down a load of tiny little crackers with peanut butter, hiking snack things. Apparently about 300 calories worth.

I thought nuts were high density when it comes to calories? Why am I so hungry?

Had a shit day at hospital appointment and seemed to go from no hunger to feeling queasy with a headache that eased after eating.

Would you feel ok eating this quantity of food?

Sorry the yogurt & fruit was around 3pm as a late lunch.

So you had breakfast at 8am and are wondering why you're hungry at 11pm......?

Sorry the yogurt & fruit was around 3pm as a late lunch.

That's not lunch , that's dessert. No lunch or dinner leads to late night snacking in my experience!

angelikacpickles · 03/05/2023 23:21

Why are you so hungry? Probably because you didn't eat any dinner?

MsMoney · 03/05/2023 23:21

Is this a weird undereating competition thing?
You’ve barely eaten anything, but you’re posting as if you’re greedy?
YABU.

mrsplum2015 · 03/05/2023 23:22

No I would probably have used the 300 calories for a high protein low carb lean cuisine or something then been ok.

Nuts are high density but not overly filling in my experience, definitely avoid them if limiting calorie intake, same for peanut butter.

Those snacks would be great for someone climbing or body building and needing a high calorie diet, accompanied by regular meals

DelphiniumBlue · 03/05/2023 23:22

Well that's not really enough to keep an adult going, is it? Doesn't sound like you had any dinner, and that light lunch would only keep the wolf from the door for a few hours. That sounds like well under a thousand calories, so unless you are semi-fasting and resting while doing it, no I don't think that's adequate.

Enjoytheweethings · 03/05/2023 23:25

I am not trying to limit calories at all, I am trying to eat calorie dense foods so when I wasn't hungry earlier, I was hoping to still be getting enough high energy foods.

3 boiled eggs = 250 calories.
150g plain yoghurt = 90 calories
handful of blueberries = 80 calories.

So 420 calories all day and you wonder why you're hungry? SERIOUSLY? Have I stumbled into a pro-anorexia group?

goodkidsmaadhouse · 03/05/2023 23:27

Really?!

I would eat everything you’ve listed for breakfast and a morning snack… then go on to have lunch, an afternoon snack and supper…

universityhelp · 03/05/2023 23:27

Are you doing keto? Regardless, it doesn't sound enough calories but if doing keto, have you had enough water? If so, it might be time to boost your calories or have small amount of carbs with it.

CC4712 · 03/05/2023 23:28

What is the AIBU???

How much water are you drinking? People often confuse hunger for actual thirst. Are you trying to lose weight? Doing fasting?

No- its not enough nor varied enough for an adult in a whole day unless you are doing some sort of fasting diet for the day and eating normally on other days?

beAsensible1 · 03/05/2023 23:28

OP you need to eat. all of that was snacking no meals? surprised you didnt pass out tbh

Gooseysgirl · 03/05/2023 23:29

3 eggs, yoghurt and fruit is breakfast. You are missing two other proper meals. That's why you are hungry.

Enjoytheweethings · 03/05/2023 23:29

I'm struggling with enjoyment of food from grief.

I try to think of what I really fancy eating for lunch for example, and my mind goes blank and it all seems overwhelming.

OP posts:
AndTheSurveySays · 03/05/2023 23:30

Just because something is high in calories doesn't mean that it makes you feel full. Just eat more filling foods.

beAsensible1 · 03/05/2023 23:34

would you try huel? i sometimes get overwhelmed with what to eat and usually just have huel to tide me over until I can sort out the next meal in my head or pick something up.

but you definetly need more food, one way or another

Notimeforaname · 03/05/2023 23:35

Eat a dinner? The problem is clearly the gap from 3pm to 11pm..

Notimeforaname · 03/05/2023 23:43

I'm sorry you are grieving op 💐Just eat what you can, when you can.

I try to think of what I really fancy eating for lunch for example, and my mind goes blank and it all seems overwhelming

If you're at home:

Soup/sandwiches
Pasta
Rice with veg or meat
Eggs
Wraps
Toasties
Beans on toast

Maybe you hate all of those lunch suggestions, I was trying to think of quick things😅

You could try batch cooking some dishes, if you feel up to it one day and save some for freezing so you don't have to bother thinking the following week.

Hope you feel better soon op.

Newname2323 · 03/05/2023 23:44

You know why your hungry, don't be daft.

Mumsnet really need to put a stop to these threads.

Grief or not, people know that a few hundred calories per day isn’t enough. Lots of us have times where grief or worries make us lose our appetite and we eat less. That’s normal. But we don’t do the faux naivety teeny tiny bullshit that’s happening here.

This is wanting attention for eating very little/ED.

Get help.

0ddSock · 03/05/2023 23:52

You're barely eating that's why you're hungry

Spiderboy · 03/05/2023 23:53

Have some porridge. It’s very normal to be hungry on so few calories

hopsalong · 03/05/2023 23:54

I would feel fucking appalling by 10am if I ate that egg/ yoghurt/ nut combo. Makes me feel unwell just thinking about it.

I think a mid morning banana and toast would have been a good idea.

Then lunch. Then, you know, dinner. You don't seem to have had any meals today. Three eggs is like some sort of weightlifter's snack. It isn't breakfast. (Without toast!)

ladydimitrescu · 03/05/2023 23:57

I don't understand how you don't know why you're hungry - surely you're aware that's little to no food? Is this a stealth boast/competitive under eating thing?
