Selling stuff

I am clearing out my house and have put things on FB marketplace, but nothing is selling. Aibu putting prices on things? I only did it because it required an amount in the box. I am happy to take a reasonable offer. Should I put it somewhere else? I am new to selling and obviously bad at it.

You can put in the description "ono" for or nearest offer
It can take a while though, I've listed things and had to relist a few times

You might also want to try Ebay if you're willing/able to post (remember to work out a proper postage) or listed them for collection only on there.

Thanks @AnObserverInThisDarkWorld it is all furniture kind of stuff, so it cannot be posted, I was not sure if many people collect from eBay.

How long has it been online for? Ive found that when listing things on marketplace you need to be patient. Waiting for 6-12 weeks potentially. And regardless of what price you put youll very often get someone asking to pay 50% lower.

Alas selling larger items is always a problem because like you, few other people have got a van or trailer to collect whatever it is.

Join as many FB market place groups as you can, I think the max is 20, so all your neighbouring suburb buying and selling groups, for maximum reach. Keep re listing and be patient.

It's worth trying, ebay often has "fee free listings" so you don't have to pay to list them

Joining local Buy/Sell groups is also good. Its more directly targeted.

And, if you don't desperately need the money and just want to shift stuff, local free groups might also be worth a look as (at least around here) there's often people looking to furnish homes for people fleeing DV or young parents or whatever

I might try free groups. I am not really that bothered about the money. I am moving in 10 days and would rather not move them probably. I donated things to a local shelter, so might just do that again.

The algorithm is a bit odd on Facebook, people quite possibly aren’t seeing it.

If you just want to get rid of stuff then I'd definitely try the local Freecycle type group on FB

People do love a freebie and, like I say, helps the people in need

Snugglemonkey · 03/05/2023 23:30

Thanks. I started off wanting some money for the things I will need when we move, but I don't really mind having to wait for that as it will take time to decorate etc, so I think it might be best to try and get them collected just.

Some of it was just so expensive though!

I don't think furniture sells that well second hand.

When people replace a sofa or dining table say, they need to get rid of the old one in a short timeframe usually (as don't have room for both old and new, but don't want to be without either for too long), so lots and lots of people give things away for free. It then creates a situation where it is difficult to sell anything as people can get stuff for free.
It's not like most things that you can either post out, or pick up in your car (or even walking / on public transport).

Haematomato · 04/05/2023 00:35

Try gumtree, much better than fb marketplace.

wejammin · 04/05/2023 00:39

If you want to give stuff away try the Olio app, lots of people on there giving away and looking for furniture
