School says “bring lots of cash”

I’ll start this by saying I understand schools are underfunded and have been doing Christmas markets/summer fayres/wear x colour for £1 days since even I have been at school. It’s not going to stop but the leaflet we’ve been sent this week quotes:

”Spring market
Come and toast the coronation!
Support our school, bring bags and lots of cash”

AIBU to think the wording of bring lots of cash is completely insensitive to how much everyone is struggling right now? I don’t feel that part was necessary. They could’ve made the leaflet without that surely given some children wont even be able to attend with a few pounds.

If it’s a fundraiser what are they meant to say? Please don’t donate generously?

hattie43 · 03/05/2023 17:06

Get over yourself , it's a jokey comment that could be seen at any charity / fundraiser.

BellatrixLestrangesHeatedCurlers · 03/05/2023 17:07

Does it say anywhere else that it involves buying things? Just thinking that it might otherwise come across as a free event with cakes and drinks included to celebrate the coronation, instead of a fair to buy stuff at - that's how I would read it if there was no instruction to bring money. I do think it's a bit flippant though,

Skybluepinky · 03/05/2023 17:07

Most won’t bother attending, so I wouldn’t worry about it.

Sissynova · 03/05/2023 17:09

Drama queen.

Toottooot · 03/05/2023 17:10

Formal complaint NOW 💁🏻‍♀️

Dodgeitornot · 03/05/2023 17:10

Well I doubt they have card readers. If you got there and realised it's all stuff for sale and cash only you'd be moaning.
It's a funny way to convey that.

SocialserviceswillTheyhelp · 03/05/2023 17:10

BASTARDS!! Burn the place down!

🙄🙄🙄

ThatDreamSheep · 03/05/2023 17:12

I would guess its their way of making sure people realise any stalls are cash only and not card

This.

And you know it OP. Stop being over dramatic.

SnowyPetals · 03/05/2023 17:16

It's a fundraiser. They want people to buy things. Most stalls are probably cash only. Don't bring cash if you don't want to.

FourTeaFallOut · 03/05/2023 17:16

Well maybe they just mean, remember to bring cash? As opposed to turning up with your bank cards and apple pay and looking lost.

Needmorelego · 03/05/2023 17:17

What type of market is it? Secondhand donated books and toys etc.
Is a PTA organised event? If yes they would most likely been asking for donations/help for weeks so this can't have been sprung on you out of nowhere. Did you say something before?
Stalls like that in PTA organised events that I was involved with charged like 10p or 20p for most.
Perhaps join the PTA and organise something else to raise money if you don't like this event.

RebulahConundrum · 03/05/2023 17:17

You're right, it's quite tactless. As if people just have 'loads of cash' lying around. It could have been worded better.

It's a silly rhyme. People really need to stop being so sensitive.

ApolloandDaphne · 03/05/2023 17:19

It's probably just to remind people they actually need cash as they won't be able to use cards. It's a non issue.

It does go without it being pointed out that you bring what you can afford.

TwoCoffeesPlease · 03/05/2023 17:23

They are making it clear that people won’t be able to use contactless/Apple Pay!

Meepledeep · 03/05/2023 17:25

People really do find offense or outrage in anything, soon no one will bother communicating with anyone else ffs. It's a school fete, I'm sure they're not going to check people have indeed brought loads of cash. Fuck me how depressing this country is, schools can never do right for wrong either.

Lovingitallnow · 03/05/2023 17:27

Maybe they have Bob Geldof working in the office?

CandlelightGlow · 03/05/2023 17:28

Yes OP, you'll get a bunch of condescending idiots on here pretending there's no way it could possibly be insensitive but, yes, of course it is very tone deaf.

CandlelightGlow · 03/05/2023 17:30

I and my 4 siblings have been through schools and all to different secondaries, have 2 children in primary and I have never seen any phrase even in the ball park of "bring loads of money to spend".

HelpMeGetThrough · 03/05/2023 17:31

Lovingitallnow · 03/05/2023 17:27

Nah, back in the day, he shouted "we want your fucking money!!".

Mind you, could be funny seeing the Head outside at kicking out time shouting it.

Wow you purposely missed the point there didn't you. Oh the faux confusion!
