To go ahead with vet appointment?

Hi all,

Looking for some advice. My 4 year old dog has had a limp for a number of months. After multiple vet visits, medications and an X-ray we were referred to a specialist. We have waited nearly 7 weeks for the appointment which is on Friday. Last week, my dogs limp suddenly disappeared. No sign of it whatsoever.

I am now torn over whether to go ahead with the appointment, which includes a CT scan, or cancel. The initial appointment is £1800 - £2200 and I can expect to pay a few hundred pounds, as per my insurance policy. My dog also gets very anxious about being left at the vets and hates travelling in the car, so I have that to consider as well.

Obviously it was the bank holiday weekend, so I tried to contact my vet today to ask her opinion again about the X-ray, only to be told she was away and she will try and call me tomorrow. I spoke to the specialists who want me to let them know by tomorrow afternoon if I want to cancel.

I know it’s difficult to advise without all the facts, but if you were me, what would you do? My family want to cancel but I’m leaning towards going ahead with it.

YABU - cancel it. The dog isn’t in pain and it’s not worth the money or stress for the dog.

YANBU - go ahead with it. You have waited so long and it might still show something is wrong.

I would try to get a basic consultation with the vet to see if they still think the scan is needed.

What did everyone say when you asked about this in here the other day?

Only your vet can give you advice on this

I would go - having had a dog with cruciate damage it can show intermittently.
