Hi,

I know I ABU to ask on here - but DS has got into health/fitness and I’d like to get him some weights as it is his birthday soon. Can anyone recommend any?
I have no idea of how many kg….

thanks

What is his level of fitness at the moment?

I would say its better to get him a gym membership lots do teen sessions. Weights machines are less likely to cause misuse injury than free weights.

But having said that if you do want weight for home look at kettlebells there are loads of videos on Instagram about various exercises you can do with them and my teens prefer them to dumbells.

Have a look on https://www.physicalcompany.co.uk/?gclid=CjwKCAjwxr2iBhBJEiwAdXECwZ60kaY44m0NkinxsqLlMzqsIdQQgHYLRR7IoQtexNhAWGuC0jERoCouIQAvDDBwE
You could get him a pump set to start him off. He can buy extra weights as he gets stronger

You can get adjustable ones that might be better. He will need different sizes depending on the exercise and should progress to lifting more as he goes along. Personally at home I have a set of dumbbells 3kg and 5kg and kettlebells 12kg and 16kg and a mini barbell that has adjustable amounts up to 30kg -all used in lockdown but not that much since. I find the gym is much better as there are so many other weight options and I'm more motivated in classes. Obviously I am not a 14 year old 😄 but maybe gives you a vague idea. Really he would be better off in a gym for guidance.

Thanks all. He does go to the gym. But he mentioned weights for when he can’t go (run up to exams or when the kids sessions aren’t on, or closed like
today).
