Parking one - with a diagram!

This week I had a dental appointment and was running just on time. The only space in the carpark was next to a 4x4 who had parked directly on the line to the right of their spot.
I just pulled into the middle of thr spot next to them - there was a car to my right and I wanted to be able to get out.
The couple were standing by their boot, they had just arrived, and they noticed they wouldn't be able to open the driver door very far ( I could probably have slid in but I'm tiny).
The husband shouted at me across the carpark "can you move your car so she (his wife) can get in."
Other shoppers were staring at me, I definitely felt intimated. Tried to calmly say no, I have to get to an appointment. I suggested they should move their car, going via the the passenger side if they couldn't get in the driver side.
I dashed away to dentist, had to stop to tie shoelace and he continued to go on at me being very loud and insistent I should come back and move.
As a parting shot, I blurted out that it was actually their shit parking that caused the issue, not mine. Idk why, it just came out.
Had my dental appointment and came back - they had evidently managed to move their car and the wife was sitting in the drivers seat, door open, videoing my car.
She videoed me as I drove away, making sure to get my face and numberplate.
Why the hell would she do that?
Evidently thought I was being vu, but I am slightly concerned what she could do with that incredibly boring footage of me leaving a parking spot.....?.
I know my comments about their shit parking was rude, but I don't cope very well with confrontation and find it hard to calmly stick up for myself. I sort of said exactly what was in my head without thinking.
Is this pathetic incident going to go viral 😂

Their bad parking caused the issue, don’t give it a second thought

Foodylicious · 01/05/2023 14:29

To be honest I would have just got back in the car and moved it a bit. Should have taken 1 min max.
Yes their parking was crap, but I think in your rush you made a bad situation worse!
She was totally unreasonable to film you.
Probably will do nothing with it. Just trying to intimidated you.

I guess it wasn't just the time.... I would then have been too close to the car to my right and have turned into the shit parker.....

Ignore, entitled twats with a big car and sense on entitlement to match.

Sirzy · 01/05/2023 14:37

I would have pulled out long enough for her to get in the car they may have been parked badly but you then parking made the situation harder

Unescorted · 01/05/2023 14:39

Their crap parking caused it. My evil pixie part would have checked to see if I was closer to the line on the other side.. if I was I would have moved it closer to theirs and thanked them for pointing out that you hadn't parked in the middle of the parking space. Before going for the appointment and a coffee and a mooch around the shops.

I agree with this.
I mean you didn't do anything wrong by parking where you did, but you could have diffused the whole situation really quickly and easily.

Whammyyammy · 01/05/2023 14:45

Their crap entitled parking causes the issue, not yours. I would of done the same, but would of said more back to Mr mouthy.

KrisAkabusi · 01/05/2023 14:51

They were wrong, but you could have pulled out, other driver gets in their car, you park back into same spot you left. Would only have taken seconds and your car wouldn't have been badly positioned.

lljkk · 01/05/2023 14:51

They waited around for end of your dentist appt to video you? Mental !!!

Would it have made a difference to you how he asked?
I felt accused and other shoppers were staring at me as he yelled I need to move my car.....
A nicer approach would have got me moving I expect....

PrrrplePineapple · 01/05/2023 14:56

I would have done exactly what you did.

I have no patience for people who cannot be bothered to park properly within a marked bay, and do not care if they inconvenience other drivers.

IKnowItsNotMine · 01/05/2023 14:57

I love that you stood up for yourself!
On behalf of everyone who wishes they could - thank you !

Also - don’t give the video another thought, what weirdos x

Maggie178 · 01/05/2023 14:59

You weren't unreasonable. He didn't like that he didn't get his own way and thought he could bully you. Don't think about it anymore.

If he was stood at the boot of his car and you were at the side of yous, I doubt he was shouting loud enough for other people to hear or be interested.

Of course he should have asked nicely but there are any number of reasons he might have been blunt. I don't think I would have given it much thought!

HisNibs · 01/05/2023 15:05

You did nothing wrong OP. Well done for standing up to the asshat. The only thing I might have done differently would have been to take a picture/video of his (badly parked) car before I left in case I came back to my car and found a great whacking dent in the side of it (and told him and everyone else being nosey why I was taking the pictures).

diddl · 01/05/2023 15:05

I mean you didn't do anything wrong by parking where you did, but

To me there is no "but".

Op did nothing wrong & doesn't have to put herself out in anyway whatsoever for others who cba to park correctly.

If I have understood although the other space isn't a parking space they could have parked to that line & had plenty of space to open both doors.

Clymene · 01/05/2023 15:06

If you'd been a massive bloke, they wouldn't have said anything.

ohtowinthelottery · 01/05/2023 15:08

Can't imagine what they'll do with the video. I expect ut was just another way of intimidating you. If they did bother to post it on a local Facebook page I would fully expect they'd get their arse handed to them on a plate over their ridiculous parking.

Don't lose any sleep over it.

SwishSwishBisch · 01/05/2023 15:08

Dear god all the replies saying you ‘could have just moved’ - wtf is wrong with you all? THEY could have ‘just’ parked properly to start with!
Only by chance they just so happened to be present when OP herself parked (completely correctly) but if you park right on the line like an absolute twat, then you should also reasonably assume you might be hemmed in be another car when you return to your vehicle!
My only difference to how you reacted OP is that I would have completely blanked them. Their car, their problem 🤷🏻‍♀️

ILoveCreamCrackersMe · 01/05/2023 15:08

I would've given them a right mouthful if they tried that shit on with me.

Next time take a pic and advise it's going on 'you park like a c**t' if people continue to give you grief.

rwalker · 01/05/2023 15:09

spaces in car parks now aren’t really big enough for larger cars
that said he should if reversed out and then his wife could of got in
the drama was all of there own making

Spiderboy · 01/05/2023 15:11

If I was going to an appointment and was rushing along, I wouldn’t have gone back either. You were parked fine.

really weird of them to film you, it tells you all you need to know really

PuppyMonkey · 01/05/2023 15:14

He could have got in first, driven forward a bit and his wife could have then got in the passenger seat unhindered and they would be on their merry way.
