Have a 3 man team moving my stuff from old house to new tomorrow - assuming they do a good job how much should I tip them?

OP posts:
MyBloodyMaryneedsmoreTabasco · 29/04/2023 01:26

I gave £10 each.

Oopstheregoesanotherrubbertreeplant · 29/04/2023 01:59

I didn't give mine a tip. I paid the bill and that expensive enough.

RoseMartha · 29/04/2023 02:04

I didnt tip mine either, it was expensive. It was also very short in distance as in under 5 miles. And a downsize.

DRS1970 · 29/04/2023 02:16

Why would you tip them when you have just paid them to do it...

AwkwardSquad · 29/04/2023 07:27

We tipped ours £20 each, they worked their arses off

EscapeRoomToTheSun · 29/04/2023 07:29

I didnt realise it was expected! I wouldn't have tipped mine anyway they broke my desk for the best part of 2 grand.

JuneShitfield · 29/04/2023 07:31

Enough for a couple of pints each. Used to be a tenner a head, last move we gave them £15 each.

Northernsoullover · 29/04/2023 07:32

I tipped mine because they worked hard and the company takes most of it. They'll not be able to work in that line of work forever.

Fudgewomble · 29/04/2023 07:33

£20 each - there were 6 of them (a lot to move)

usernotfound0000 · 29/04/2023 07:36

We didn't tip either. To be fair, they were shit. DH had to help as they only sent 2 people, 1 of which was too old to do any lifting! We often joke we'd still be moving if he didn't help!

Backtoreality1 · 29/04/2023 07:41

I gave £10 each but they were brilliant 🤩

CantFindTheBeat · 29/04/2023 07:42

If they are excellent, i would tip £20 each of you can afford it.

Good movers are worth every penny.

In relation to the comments about age - we moved from a second floor flat years ago. The movers were in their 60s and put me and DH to shame whizzing up and down the stairs with boxes and bags. On one occasion they even had cardboard wardrobe boxes on their backs!

usernotfound0000 · 29/04/2023 07:51

I take your point about age. But in our case, one mover made a big song and dance about being out of breath every time he came up the stairs (3 floors, town house) and the other (who was well in his 60s) didn't make any attempt to do the heavy lifting, he saw his role to be standing at the van arranging stuff, they really were truly terrible. Maybe age wasn't the reason why though.

Boussa · 29/04/2023 07:57

Would never have thought to tip. Why is specifically tipping movers a thing apparently?

SpeckledlyHen · 29/04/2023 08:00

The last move we did we tipped them £50 each. Previously £20 each on moves 10 years ago.

We tipped them quite a bit as we moved in August last year during that searing heat wave we had. My car registered at 34 degrees. These guys were phenomenal and I don’t know how they did it to be honest. They packed all our stuff up and moved us with no stress at all. One guy in particular was sweating so much I was handing him pint after pint of water. We also were quite rural so I went to M&S and got us all lunch.

Yes, they definitely don't sound like ideal movers!

It's a bloody hard job, not for the faint hearted!

DaisyDaisyDaisyDaisyDaisyDaisy · 29/04/2023 08:04

2 guys helped me move. They manhandled extremely awkward heavy furniture up a little ladder into the loft bedroom. They worked like demons from beginning to end and were dripping with sweat by the end. I overpaid the main guy as I thought he'd undersold himself and gave them both a £10 for a drink. Deserved every penny.

Rewis · 29/04/2023 08:09

None. I paid the invoice that was the agreed rate

sorrynotathome · 29/04/2023 08:10

£20 each - they were brilliant.
