To do nothing in the evenings?

I am a full time working solo mum of 3 children.

I finish work/ cook something (crap generally) clear it up/ bedtime/ a load of washing in or out or back/ bed.

Other people run, do yoga, DIY, crafting. Cook nice food for themselves...

I do nothing. I just about keep my eyes open till 9, possibly watch a bit of TV or have a bath.

100% asleep by 10.

Why can't I motivate myself to do something after the kids bed..?!! 🤬🤪😫

I don't even have children and I'm shattered in the evenings. I work a physical outdoors job and just want to come home and flop on the sofa - so that's exactly what I do Grin

Often in bed by 9pm too.

Don't worry or compare. When your DC are older you will have time to do stuff if you want to, or if you still watch tv and sleep that's fine too. Time flies, you will have more evening options soon enough. Sounds like you are doing a great job, enjoy the tv, baths and sleep!

You are flying solo and working FT. You definitely do not need to be bashing yourself about doing even more! You are doing exceptionally well as it is.

I am same. Too tired to do anything else. I read for 5 minutes before I sleep, sometimes for longer if I am finding it hard to unwind. That is it.

Listen to your body, you need to rest. Burnout is completely real. Enjoy!

My dc are older and still can’t do anything mid week!

MintJulia · 27/04/2023 19:08

Same as me.

Up at 6am
Drop ds at school bus at 7.30
Start work at 8
Collect ds 5.30pm
Cook, clear up, supervise homework
Asleep on the sofa by 9. 🙄

But if I'm to get my 8 hours, I should be fast asleep by 10. And it's so cold, wet and dreary. When it finally warms up, I'll be outside in the green house but in this weather I just want to hibernate.

If you have a fairly full on FT job and 3 kids then work and parent is all you’ll manage really. Even more if single parent.

They will grow up eventually..

Thank you for the replies. The reason I asked is a mixture of envy (ooh she went on a girl's weekend and I haven't been out for years due to babysitting costs) and also just that I also feel I've lost a bit of myself. I used to like a walk or run and some yoga, but I can't fit anything for me. I walk at lunch at work if I have time and love it.
But yes, I also do just love my baths (or glass of wine and gogglebox- it's Friday!) so I like the advice to just enjoy what's here and wait it out. My eldest is 12 and already quite self sufficient so I suppose it'll go fast.
Thanks. Made my Friday reading these 💕

I think you’re doing more than enough, cut yourself some slack. This life stage will pass and things will get easier as they get older, then you will have more time to do things after work.

This. Try to be kinder to yourself.
