Got covid and banished to bedroom

Quitelikeacatslife · 27/04/2023 08:17

I'm feeling a bit sorry got myself as have tested positive for covid and do feel rubbish. Everyone else in house tested negative. Kids gone to school DH works from home . He's now saying I need to stay in the bedroom. He's brought tea and toast , very nice. I'm happy to get some rest this morning and will probably have a shower etc but I want to veg on sofa later. He works in lounge (has an office but doesn't use it) I don't want to pass bugs on but the thought of not moving freely around for next few days is making me feel worse . AIBU to go into kitchen (I could wear mask) and to ask him to give me lounge?

lIf he’s working there and all set up it seems a bit mean.

Just enjoy a duvet day.

fourelementary · 27/04/2023 08:20

Why can’t you watch tv in bed? YABU.

readbooksdrinktea · 27/04/2023 08:21

YABU. Watch TV in bed and try to limit everyone's exposure to the virus.

HaveYouSeenTheTime · 27/04/2023 08:21

Unless anyone has immunodeficiency in your home, nobody needs to be banished to anywhere. Just wash your hands and don’t cough in his face. Normal respectful behaviour will suffice.

DangerNoodles · 27/04/2023 08:21

YANBU, it's your home to move around as you like. He can work in his office if he doesn't want to sit in the lounge with you. Does he intend to banish your DC to thier rooms if they ever catch covid?

Ragwort · 27/04/2023 08:22

If your DH is WFH ... from the living room .. then it's entirely reasonable that he has the space to himself (although why doesn't he use his office - do you mean a home office?).

mdh2020 · 27/04/2023 08:24

I enjoyed having covid and being isolated in the bedroom for 5 days, reading and watching Netflix on the iPad. Other people brought me meals and drinks and no one asked me to do anything. I’d say make the most of it.

BogRollBOGOF · 27/04/2023 08:25

Just go about with whatever you feel up to doing.

DH and I failed to share Covid with each other on the 3 occasions one of us knew we had it while sharing our bed as usual. We didn't have a spare bed anyway as that room had been comandeered by The Desk from the WFH days.

We don't routinely avoid each other with any other illnesses anyway.

There is no obligation to isolate and hasn't been for a year. I'd just swerve avoidable crowded areas, but that naturally happens if you feel off-colour anyway. (And if you're that poorly, you'll mainly hang out in bed anyway)

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 27/04/2023 08:28

My DH got me to do this the first time I had it. Then he caught it and DD isolated lol. It did piss me off but I didn't have to do anything around the house

CatNamedBob · 27/04/2023 08:29

If he doesn't want to sit in the same room as you then he needs to work in his office. No way would I be banished to a single room in my own home for a minor illness that most people have already had and been vaccinated against.

Quitelikeacatslife · 27/04/2023 08:30

No tv in bedroom, I probably could get something to play on laptop , just feeling generally sorry for myself. He normally has whole house to himself during the day and he likes that , it's the same when I'm off work and he's working from home, I just can't relax. I guess it'd be nice if he went in to work to an office and I could please myself but that's not an option

I think it's pretty reasonable to ask you to keep your distance from the rest of your family.

When any if us have had Covid we isolate in our bedrooms.

Yes has a home office but it's full of his hobby (eye roll)

I had covid over the Easter school holidays. I banished myself to the bedroom as I didn’t want anyone else to catch it and ruin their holidays but I also felt quite unwell.

Unfortunately my efforts were for nothing and OH caught covid a week later. I think if your OH has an office to go to he should use that so you can enjoy the house whilst everyone else is at school work and then retreat to the bedroom in the evening and let OH get on with all the cooking/cleaning/washing and enjoy a rest from it. I don’t think you should stay in your room for the next week.

Yes last year poor DS was in room for 10 days!

Definitely this!

MzHz · 27/04/2023 08:34

Tell him you’ll stay alone in your bedroom for sleep as much as possible but he has to use his office so you can have a little extra space to relax in.

you’re ill, you’re not asking him to do much for you, but you need him to do this.

or he can go to another workspace…

put your foot down.

Whatt · 27/04/2023 08:35

Its too late in the covid game to be isolating in a room.

MzHz · 27/04/2023 08:35

Perfect opportunity for him to give it a good tidy up and get it back into service

Malificent1 · 27/04/2023 08:36

Just tell him no and settle down for a film? Why are you acting like it’s 2020?

lljkk · 27/04/2023 08:37

Go get TV & move it into your bedroom?

10 days confinement in response to covid is not sustainable. We are all going to catch it repeatedly in years to come.

Tinkerbyebye · 27/04/2023 08:39

YABU. By moving to the lounge that then stops that room being used by everyone, not just your husband
Just stay in the bedroom, watch tv there

PuffinPuffinPenguin · 27/04/2023 08:40

YANBU. Assuming you've all had your covid jabs, or been out and about and exposed to fragments of virus, it's silly in 2023 to isolate in your room. And honestly I think people making child isolate in their room for 10 days is cruel. Ridiculous behaviour. You all need to get a grip and your DH needs to use his own office and stop manspreading around the house. He clearly just wants you out of the way so he can treat the whole house as his office like usual.

Quitelikeacatslife · 27/04/2023 08:41

I'm not going to stay here for 10 days, but think I should probably stay away from kids until weekend so they don't miss school . I've said I'll stay here for this morning and might want lounge this afternoon. I might end up having a nap or getting into a book so I guess I won't push it until I'm really stir crazy

thebellagio · 27/04/2023 08:46

What would you normally do if you had an illness or a bug? Would you normally be banishe away from one another?
