For the last five years, I’ve been learning martial arts at an MA school about 4 miles away (distance is relevant). I’ve really been struggling to go for the last few months, I should be aiming for my black belt this year (should have been much sooner but Covid etc).

The issue is I work shifts, so I can only attend the days/weeks I’m on early shift. I work EOW too so can’t often go to Saturday classes, they’re closed Sun & Mon. I’m SO tired on earlies, have to get up at 0430 for a 0630 start, usually get home 2:30-3:00 pm. And even though it’s a short distance away, the traffic on the route is horrific and I have to leave at least an hour before to make sure I get there for a 6pm class. I just feel I’m wasting so much time driving and don’t get any relaxation time after work.

There are later classes some days for my grade, but that means I get home after I’d usually be in bed (when on early turn). I do enjoy it when I’m there but it seems such a hassle actually getting there that I just CBA. I have just rejoined the gym to build my strength back and that’s 10 minutes away and I can go anytime and I’m enjoying that.

Public transport not an option - I’d be sat in the same traffic on a bus and would end up getting back even later, trains don’t run to my station after 7pm.

I never used to feel this tired but I think peri possibly and having Covid last year mean I’m wiped very quickly and can’t do as much as I used to☹️.

Any advice? Sorry for the dissertation 😄
