Tidying up after the cleaners

Is this normal?

I have two cleaners come for two hours, so pay for four hours in total.
My house is tidy and everything in its place, I just hate and don’t have time to do mopping, windows, oven etc etc
My parents are staying with us for a short holiday. When we came back today, everything was very clean as always, but their room had the carpet on the bed, pillows on the bed (supposed to be on the floor-it’s my Dds room and she has a little reading corner etc) All clearly been cleaned but things thrown everywhere, we’ve just spent time tidying up

Is this normal?!

I would be angry about the dog but wouldn’t complain, I would just remind them. It’s done, dog is fine.

The stuff on the bed just looks like they forgot.

fourlambbhunas · 26/04/2023 19:32

I'm a cleaner and I would never leave someone's room like that! I make the beds and fluff up all the pillows and always put everything back in it's place. Putting rugs on the bed is not hygienic and if they needed to move them they could have neatly folded and piled them in the corner. I even try to remember which order her shampoos and body washes were in so I don't inconvenience her 🤣

JMSA · 26/04/2023 19:35

You're being MEGA petty. Even the gate thing is weird. Wouldn't you check it was closed before letting your dog out?

The cleaners let the dog out and left the gate open, not the OP.

thedrugsdowork · 26/04/2023 19:41

This is not petty, mine do this sometimes and it really irritates me as I don’t want to come home from work and tidy. I had one who put my handbag in the (bedroom) bin once!

Isaidmaybeee · 26/04/2023 19:44

@JMSA Eh?

Be thankful they move stuff to clean thoroughly. Every cleaner I have had has just cleaned round anything. Even shampoo bottles in the shower. 🙈

Delatron · 26/04/2023 20:04

No I wouldn’t be happy at all. They’ve left it in a mess. That’s not what you expect to walk back to.

My cleaner leaves all the beds perfectly made. Cushions arranged nicely. She even tidies DS’s teddies.

Delatron · 26/04/2023 20:05

I’m wondering if the people who think you are being petty (you are really not). Have cleaners? You don’t pay to have to come back and tidy up yourself.

The gate thing is bad too.

Y

None of this has been “thrown everywhere”.

  • The rug has been carefully folded so that the floor side isn’t touching the bed.
  • The corner of the duvet that would drag on the wet freshly mopped floor has been lifted clear.
  • The cushions and basket have been placed out of the way to keep them dry.
They have mopped, and the floor was too wet to put stuff back. I can guarantee if you came back to waterstained items you’d be more upset…

The fact that you claim it took 15 minutes to lift a tiny mat, a small basket and three cushions and move them to a different location in the same room is a huge red flag for your “interpretation” of events.

Yes I’ve had cleaners in the past and wouldn’t have made a fuss about this. Wouldn’t have expected my cleaner to make my bed either. Just asked them to hoover, dust, wash floor etc.

Ok different expectations (and cleaners) I guess.

The room doesn’t look a mess, there are just a few items on the bed. It wouldn’t have taken you 15 minutes to put them away unless 10 of them were putting in your complaint.
You should have just focussed on the main issue- the gate being left open with your dog unsafe. Now you just look like one of those serial complainers.

This is exactly what I was thinking. Over Complaining ruins any cause, no matter how just. You just get written off as a petty whinger. The room has a few items off the floor for mopping, no big deal, but the dog could be dead. Where is the photo of that? That is the actual problem!

I have a cleaner. Cleaners are human- one-off forgetting to put the rug and cushions back really isn't a big deal. My cleaner left the furniture polish on the table last week rather than putting it away- gasp! Maybe I should be huffing about not paying to have to put the polish in the cupboard myself 😂

I would just automatically have made my bed before leaving for work. It’s only a case of pulling a duvet up isn’t it? I wouldn’t think “oh the cleaner can do that” like I’m in a hotel but people are different I guess.

I have a cleaner and think OP
is being unreasonable.

🤷‍♀️

Delatron · 26/04/2023 22:05

I make my bed but then the cleaner redoes it and makes it look much better. And she’d never leave a mess like that. Judging by this thread I’m beginning to think I just have a really good cleaner..

Most cleaners .... clean... making beds is not cleaning, they are not chamber maids.

Do you have a cleaner or are you a cleaner?

My cleaners have always made all the beds!

Maybe I’m alone in that. But I’m sure my friend said her cleaner changes her duvet every week. I guess different cleaners have different standards!

mrsbyers · 26/04/2023 22:08

My cleaner mops just before she leaves , I think yours have done the same and just lifted stuff out of the way while
it dries which mine does , leaves the rugs rolled up on the stairs etc

pfftt · 26/04/2023 23:31

@Delatron @nomoredriving my cleaner makes the beds. Every cleaner we have ever had over the past 30 years have made the beds. We have moved around so have had many cleaners. All made beds.

Nanny0gg · 26/04/2023 23:34

My house is tidy before the cleaner comes and clean and tidy afterwards.

Every ornament might not be in its exact spot but that's minor and understandable.

The 'new' cleaners need training

My current one doesn't, because I don't expect her to, she's a cleaner not a chamber maid.

My previous ones didn't, because I didn't expect them to, they were cleaners not chamber maids.

My future ones won't, because I don't expect them to , they're cleaners not chamber maids.

I hope you now understand?
